Description

l. FONDA.
Saw-Clamps.
Patented Aug. 61187424l -UNITEn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC FONDA, OF LACONIA, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
MPRVMENT IN SAW-CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. b, dated August 6, 1872.
To all whom it may con-cem:
Be it known that I, ISAAC FUNDA, of Laconia, in the county of Belknap and State of New Hampshire, have invented an Improved Saw-Clamp; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification- Figure l being a side elevation of the improved saw-clamp; Fig. 2, an elevation thereof at right angles to the view in Fig. 1.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in both figures.
The object of my invention is to furnish a convenient and effective clamp for holding saw-blades while filing them.
A The clamp is constructed with two jaws, A B, having double clampin g-edges a a, as shown. The shanks b o of these jaws turn on a pivot, G, which also passes through a base-piece, D, so that this single joint serves the double purpose of a hinge to the two jaws for their separation and approach, and a joint on which both jaws turn upon the base to any position, vertical or inclined. The base D is furnished with a hand-screw, E, for attaching the clamp to a bench or other support. The pivot-bolt C has on one end a cam, G,which plays against a counter cam-surface, H, on the side of the adjacent jaw-shank, as represented. The cam is held upon the bolt by a nut, d, which screws upon the end of the pivot-bolt, and serves also to adjust the closeness of the cam to the cam-surface on the jaw. The cam G has a handle, f, to turn it by. A single partial turn of the handle will either loosen the jaws on the base or tighten the same in position.
A similar construction and arrangement of a cam, I, and a counter cam-surface, K, on one of the jaw-shanks, and of a bolt, L, passing through holes in the jaw-Shanks in a proper position, as shown, serve to tighten the clampjaws against the saw-blades, and vice versa, on simply turning the cani I by its handle g a part of a circle. A coiled spring, h, between the jaw-Shanks on the bolt L, separates the jaws when the cam is loosened. A nut, t', screwing on the end of the bolt L, holds the cam I to the cam-surface K of the jaw, and serves to adjust the closeness of the cam-surfaces.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination ofthe screw-bolt L, jaws A B, cam I, cam-surface K, and adjusting-nut i, substantially as and for the purpose herein specified.
2. The spring'h, in combination with the loose jaws A B, pivot C, cam I, cam-surface K, and bolt L, as and for the purpose herein specifled.
Specification signed by me this 13th day of April, 187 2.
ISAAC FUNDA. Witnesses:
