Application; ined Janjlary 31, 191s. serrano. 214,696.
To allee/wm fit-may concern j l Be 1t known thatI, SAMUEL E.DoUGLAss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaufort, inthe `county of vCarteret" and State Of NorthCarolina, have invented' certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Frame v'Holders andJ Hangers; 'andsy I clear, and eXact description of theinvention, such as will enablev others skilled in the art to which it appertains tfo make and useI the same.v f v This invention relates Ato picture frame holders, and hangers," and the 'primary yobject of the vinvention `isto provide an irn-y proved means for hangingfpicture-- frames in which the framecanbe raisedy or lowered without necessitating the use cfa "step-ladder, and after the Apicture molding hooks have been once .placed vinjpositiony the frames can be readily and easily removed wit-hout the useof a step ladder and without necessitatingjthe vremoval" of the picture frame hooksu Another object of the :invention is the provision of an nnproved means for hang` ing pictures in whichv they supporting cord is slidably associated with the picturel frame, so that the weight of the Vframe 'will' automatically hold the picture in the center ofthe cord, and thus assume a straightv position. 1 i A further object of the invention is'the provision of a device of the above character, which can be readily and easily -appliedgto picture frames of all sizes and one which is durable and p efcient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one that can be placed upon the market at. a reasonable cost. 'of any size: or shapes i,The picture frame Fig. j7 isa detail perspective View of one holder l includesl a pair lofsl-idably fassof-y'` ciated `bars :3 and 4E, the lowerbar '4' having 'its f/lon'gitudinal edges bent upwardly fand then `'inwardly toward each other to provide guidesy 5 for slidably.. receiving the. upper bar 3. k The opposite outer terminals ofthe tures' G `for receiving suitable detacl'i'able position.4 The bars 3 and 4 can be readily moved toward or'avvay from each other, so-k that'thefsame can vbe secured to larger o rvY e smaller picture frames. The upper barf3 is provided with an outwardly extending hook S on each side edge thereof adjacent tothe a upper terminal of the same and these hooks v8 sli'dably receive the picture Wire lor'cord 9. The picture wire or cord- 9' is preferably provided' with its ends tied.4 so that an inclosed loop is formedandthe. lower end of4 Athecord l.receives the removable retaining hook- 10,.which is associated with the supportingbars 3 and 4. form the ordinary double hook for engaging the picture molding and receiving `the Wire 9. The picture molding hook `15 includes a body 14 having a downwardly .extending bill 15 for engaging the picture molding' and the upvvardly extending bill 16 for receiving the picture Wire. The bill 16 has its terminal slightly bentinwardly as at 17 to Y hookedoverthe hooks 8 and then around the hooks 12.
' From theforegoing description it can be Y seenthatafter' the picture molding hook 13 has been placedinposition, and the picture Wire 9rhung on the .same, the picture can be readily removedfrom or placed on the supporting ycord 9. When it is desired to remove thesame, allnthat isA necessary is to remove ythe Ahook 10 and the cord 9 from around-the hook 8 and the hooks 12.
In practice, I have AYfound that the form of my invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description, vas theY preferred embodiment, isathemost efficient and practical; yet
realizing the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, 'I desire to emphasize `the fact that various minor changesin details of construction, proportion, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, When required Without sacricing any of the advantages ofmy invention as set fer-th. What is claimed is l. A picture `frame hanger and holder comprising a supporting bracket including a pair of slidably associated bars, means sccuring the outer terminals of the bars to a picture frame, a flexible member associated Withsaid bracket, the bars` of the bracket having a plurality of lapertures formed therein, and a hook slidably receiving the -flexible member and adapted to be positioned-` in any one of the apertures, as and ior the purpose specified.
2. In a device of the class described, a picture frame, a bracket including a pair of adjustable bars, means securing the outer terminals ofthe bars to a picture frame, hooks carried by the upper side edges of the bracket, hooks carried by the upper corners of the picture frame, a hook adjustably associated with the bracket, and a flexible member slidably engaging each of the hooks, as and for the purpose specified.
' In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
