EDWARD L. WALLERS TEDT, OF OGDEN, IOWA.
PAPER-HANGERS PAPER-REST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1919.
Application filed July 16, 1918. Serial N 0. 245,132.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, EDWARD L. WALLER- s'rnor, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Ogden, in the county of Boone and State of'Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Paper-Hangers Paper-Rest, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a paper hangers paper rest of simple, durable and inexpensive construction.
More particularly it is my object to provide a paper hangers paper rest which can be carried by a paper hanger in such a way as to leave his hands free for his work, and which can be readily and easily folded to position for occupying minimum space when not inuse.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the construction, ar-- rangement' and combination of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a top or plan view of a paper hangers paper rest embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 shows a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 shows a front elevation of the hasket in its collapsed position.
Fig. 4 shows a detail view of the spring clip lock device.
Fig. 5 shows a detail, sectional view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 shows a detail view illustrating the method of mounting the lower end of the hanger members in the frame, and
Fig. 7 shows a detail, sectional view taken on the line 7-7 of Fig. 3.
In the accompanying drawings, I have used the reference numerals 10 and 11 to indicate a pair of strips which may be of wood. The strips are connected together by means of hinges 12 and when the paper hangers basket is in position for use, are arranged in position parallel and adjacent to each other, as shown in Figs. 2 and 5.
For supporting the basket on the shoulders of the user, I have provided what I have called a pair of hanging members 18, each comprising an upright portion with a curved yoke 14 at its upper end adapted to fit over the shoulder of the user. and having at its lower end an off-set portion 15 rotatably extended through the strip 11, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 6.
At the lower end of the portion 15 is a laterally extending member 16 having at its end an upward extension 17. The portion 16 is long enough to allow the oif-set portion or member 15 to rotate in the member 11. and the extension 17 engages the member 11 and limits such rotation.
Thus when the device is ready for use, the hanging members will stand in the position illustrated in Fig. 2, where the portions or members 14 may be hung over the shoulders.
When, however, the device is to be folded to position for occupying a minimum of space, the hanging members are rotated until they stand in the position shown in Fig. 3.
I provide a basket which comprises a U- shaped frame'member 18 of stiif wire or the like having at its free ends right-angled extensions 19, clearly illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 7, received in the member 10.
The basket has transverse stiff members 20 extending transversely between the arms of the frame member 18. A wire 21 is mounted on the frame formed by the member 18 and the members 20.
Pivotally connected to the member 11 is a spring clip locking device 22, illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5.
When the basket is in use, the parts are arranged in position illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, 4, and 5 with the hanging members so arranged that the members 14 will rest over the shoulders of the user and with the basket extending forwardly from the user, and with the spring clip 22 in the position shown in Fig. 5, for holding the basket in substantially horizontal position where it can be used to support paper in position convenient of access to the hands of the user, and where the user will not have to use one hand to hold the paper.
When it is desired to collapse and fold up the basket for occupying a minimum of space for storage or transportation, the spring clip 22 is released and the basket portion part of the device is folded around to the position illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 2. The basket is also shown in its collapsed position in Fig. 3.
It will, of course, be understood that the hanger members are rotated to the position shown in Fig. 3 before the basket is finally collapsed. The hinges are so arranged as to permit the member to swing from the pos1t1on shown in Fig. 5, which is the position in which the basket is used, to the posiadvantages of being able to fold the basket into a relatively small space need not further be explained.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of my improved device, without departing from the real purpose and intent of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by this application, any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents, which may be reasonably included within the scope of my claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A paper hangers basket comprising a pair of strips hinged together and adapted in one position to stand adjacent and parellel to each other,a pair of hanger members comprising devices which are upright when in position for use, said last named devices Copies of this patent may be obtained for having at their upper ends portions adapted to fit over the shoulders of the user, the lower ends of saidhanger devices having off-set portions rotatably mounted in one of said strips, having at their lower parts laterally extending members provided with upward extensions for limiting such rotation and a basket propersupported on the other of said strips.
2. A paper hangers basket comprising a pair of strips hinged together. and adapted in one position to stand adjacent and parallel to each other, a pair ofhanger members comprising devices which are upright when in position for use, said last named devices having: at their upper ends portions adapted to fit overthe shoulders of the user, and having their lower ends rotatably mounted in one of said strips, a basket propersupported on the other of said strips, saidbasket comprising a U-shaped frame having'at theends of its arms right-angled extensionsreceived in the other. of said strips,-and a means for holding paper or the like.
