EN'V'ELOP.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar. 18, 1919.
Application led May 20, 1918. Serial N o. 235,623.
To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH WAGNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to envelops and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide an envelop of simple structure which may be securely held in a closed position whereby its contents may be effectually protected.
With this object in view the envelop consists of a structure made from a single blank vof material having a front side, top and bottom apsand end flaps. The top flap is provided with a tongue and the bottom flap is provided with a slot adapted to receive said tongue. The end flaps are provided with slots and strips, the said slots being adapted to receive the said tongue when the envelop is closed and one of the strips is adapted to serve as a guiding means for the tongue and the other strip is adapted to be used as a lever or pull member for spreading the back of the envelop from the front thereof when the contents are being placed in the envelop. n
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of blank from which the envelop is formed.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the envelop as closed.
Fig. 3 isan enlarged transverse section taken in the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a detail view illustrative of the manner in which the envelop is formed.
The envelop is formed from a single blank of material having a front side 1, a top Hap 2 which is provided with a tongue 3a and a bottom flap 4. The Hap 4 is provided with a slot 5. End flaps 6 are located at the ends of the front side 1 and the said flaps are provided withjslots 7 adapted to register with the slot 5 when the bottom and end 'Iiaps are folded over against the front side with a relatively broad strip 8 and the other with a relatively narrow strip 8.
In the formation of my novel envelop the strip 8 is bent into a position opposite and substantially parallel to the end flap 6 so that when the end flaps 6 are folded inwardly upon the front side 1 and so as to rest between the bottom iap 4 and the front side l, the said strip 8 may be connected adjacent to its free end to the inner sides of the end flaps. The strip 8 on the other end flap 6 is projected through the slot 8 of said flap and through the slots 7 and 5 that are registered with the slot 3; the said strip 8 being extended outwardly through the slots 7 and 5 after the iap 6 that carries the strip 8 is folded over upon the front side 1. Manifestly the free end portion of the strip 8 may be used as a finger piece for drawing the rear wall of the envelop away from the front side 1 preparatory to placing contents in the envelop. The said free. end portion of the said strip 8 may also be used as a guide for directing the free end of the tongue 3a into the registered slots in the bottom and side iaps.
From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that an envelop of simple and durable structure is provided and that the same will eectually protect its contents when the parts of the envelop are closed and sealed.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is Y 1. An envelop formed from a single blank of material having a front side, and top, bottom and end aps; the top flap having a tongue and the bottom and end flaps having slots positioned to register, and the end flaps being provided with lateral strips, one of the said lateral strips being positioned to pass outwardly through the registered slots in the end and bottom flaps, and the other strip being comparatively wide and being adapted to be connected adjacent to its free end to the inner sides of the end flaps and to lie between the front and rear walls of the envelop and opposite the said slots.
2. An envelop comprising a front side, and top, bottom and end flaps, the top flap being provided with a tongue bearing adheg3 Leer/,eti
