To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER J OSEPH KNIPP, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Ellinwood, in the county of Barton and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stack-Securing Ap paratus, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a. simple, inexpensive and eflicient anchoring or securing means for a stack in the field whereby the displacement of the top by the wind may be prevented and hence the condition of the material in the stack preserved and protected against rain and other weather conditions, it being the common experience that even after a stack has been carefully topped a relatively strong wind storm will disarrange the protecting layer of straw so as to expose the interior of the stack and thus destroy or cause deterioration in value and utility of the material.
To this end the invention consists in a construction combination and relation of parts hereinafter specifically set forth, it being understood that changes in the form, and proportion may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing Figure l is a view of a. stack to which is operatively applied a securing or anchoring device constructed in accordance with the invention.

provided with a grip 12, and any desired number of intermediate members 10 which may be introduced to suit the required length of the needle or the dimensions at the base, diametrically, of the stack which is indicated at 13.
A flexible tie member of wire or the equivalent thereof as shown at 14 is adapted to be terminally engaged with the eye in the needle and as the latter is passed through the stack near the base or close to the sur face of the ground, said extremity of the tie member is carried from one side of the stack to the other, after which the loose end of said tie member is passed over the top of the stack to form a loop 14 which spans the stack, and the extremities of the tie mem ber are then connected by means of a clamp or gripper 15, one end of the tie member being secured to an eye 16 in said gripper while the other end of the tie member is engaged by the toothed jaws 17 and 18 thereof, so that as the stack settles, after it has been formed, the ,tie wire may be tightened by drawing the friction-ally engaged extremity thereof through the gripper or between the said jaws thereof.
Obviously this securing or anchoring means may be duplicated in a plane at right angles to that shown in the drawing, but in practice it has been found that one tie member is sufficient to maintain a stack in proper form and prevent the disarrangement or displacement of the top thereof even when subjected to very severe or violent wind storms, the engagement of the lower run of the tie member with the stack near its base serving as a substantial anchorage while permitting ready displacement of the said tie member when it is desired to load the material of the stack for transportation to the barn or otherwise. It will be understood moreover that the arm 15. may be used as a reel or spool upon which to wrap the wire to maintain it in convenient form after it has been removed from the stack, to the end that the device may be compactly stored'in the intervals between its seasons of use.
Having described the invention what I claim is 1. A stack anchoring device comprising a flexible tie member, and means secured to one end of said tie member and adjust-ably 2; J menses connected with the other end thereof Whereby said tie member may be tightened so as to exert binding pressure upon the stack.
2. A stack anchoring device comprising a. flexible tie member adapted to extend transversely through a stack adjacent the bottom thereof and also over the top thereof,
and vclamping means secured to one end of said tie member and adjustably engaging the other end thereof whereby said tie mem- 10 her may be tightened so as to exert binding pressure upon the stack.
