JOHN M. MASON, OF CHELSEA, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN NEEDLE'SHARPENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,673, dated July 23, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Device for Sharpening Needles or other pointed articles, invented by JOHN M. MASON, of Chelsea, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts.
The nature and object of my invention consist in revolving a piece of solid emery, file, or other suitable material around the point to be sharpened, placed at a suitable angle'to make the proper point.

The operation of this device is, after being attached to its driving-power, to insert the needle or point to be sharpened in the hole 0, holding it stationary and pressing it against the sharpening material until the proper point is formed.
I prefer flattening the material on the side that comes in contact with the points to be sharpened, as shown in Fig. 3, so that the piece to be sharpened may not catch and revolve with the device.
