POST-FULLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1919.
Application led November 12, 1917. Serial No. 201,510.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY MAGNAN, a eitizen of the United States, residing at Beaulieu, in the county of Mahnomen and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Post-Fullers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in post pullers and more particularly to those of the hand-operated type. One object is to provide a post puller of' very simple construction which is cheap to manufacture and very efficient in operation. With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this speciflcation.
The illustration is a perspective view of my improved post puller in operation.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a base plate upon which the converging supports 2 are supported, said supports being connected and braced by the block 3. A pivot i connects the upper ends of the said supports 2 and serves as a fulcrum for the lifting lever which comprises the cam-shaped head 5 having the integral operating handle 6. The said head 5 is formed with a pluralityT of apertures 7 any one of which may receive the pivot 4c so that the fulcrum point may be changed to provide a greater or less lever* age as desired.
' To the head 5 I secure the oppositely disposed lugs 8 having bent or hooked ends 8a. Lugs 9, oppositely disposed, are secured by pivots 10 to the head 5 at an angle to the lugs 8, both sets of lugs 8 and 9 extending to the edge of the head 5, and the lugs 9 being formed with the curved free ends 11. A
chain l2 has one 'of its ends permanently in engagement with one of the lugs 8, its other end being adapted for releasable engagement with the hooked end 8El of the other lug 8, and another chain 13 has one end permanently in engagement with one of the curved ends 11 of one lug 9, its other end being adapted for releasable engagement with the curved end of the other lug 9; both of said chains being adapted for disposal about the post 14 to be raised. A contractile spring 15 secured to each lug 9 is secured also to the lower end of the head 5 and serves to yieldingly draw said lugs toward the lower end of said head.
In operation, with the lchains 12, 13 about the post to be raised the operator depresses the handle 6 which causes the said chains to exert a lifting strain upon the post and to work it loose from its moorings and raise it.
What is claimed is y In a post puller, a supporting element, a cam shaped head fulcrumed in said supporting element and, in operation, affording a bearing surface for the post with the minimum danger of binding, hooked lugs secured to said head in pairs, said pairs of lugs being disposed at an angle to each other and located above and below the point of contact of the said head with the post, springs connecting one pair of lugs and said cam shaped head, and chains carried by said hooked lugs to engage the post.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.k
HENRY IVIAGNAN.
