To all zc/wm t may Concern:
Be it known that I, IKLEY C. FIFE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of 0h10, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved fastener for use on garments instead of buttons or the like, the object of the invention being to provide an improved garment fastener which can be readily attached, which will not tear or pull off the garment, which is exceedingly strong and durable, which can be made of any suitable size for use on garments of different kinds and materials and which will stay on where placed and which will permit of adjustment to enable the garment to be tightened or loosened, as may be desired.
1With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of the hook member of my improved garment fastener.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the bar member.
ig. 3 is an elevation of the hook and bar members of the fastener, showing the same interengaged and also showing said members attached to the fabric of a garment.
The hook member 1 of my improvedgarment fastener is made from a single piece of wire which is doubled and bent to form an arm 2, hooks 3, 4 and 5 arranged in spaced relation to admit of adjustment, and a pair of rearwardly diverging arms 6 each of which has at its rear end a downwardly turned open snap. eye 7. These snap eyes are pressed through openings in the garment fabric at suitable points so that their bights are arranged on the inner side and their spring arms 8 extend to the outer side and a locking bar 9 is snapped in said eyes and is arranged on the inner fabric. Preferably, the locking bar is also made of wire. The locking bar is provided with stop heads 10 at its ends which may be bent therefrom or otherwise formed.
side of the garment Specification of LettersPatent.
Patented lBeb. I8, i919. serial No. 252,060.
The bar member ll of my improved fastener comprises a wire having downturned ends l2 which are formed with open snap eyes 13 for insertion through openings in the cloth fabric and which are identical in construction with the snap eyes 7 hereinbefore described. A lockin bar 14e which is identical with the bar 9 is provided for engagement with the snap eyes 13 and to lock the bar member 11 to the garment fabric.4
It will b'e understood that by engaging either the hook 3 or the hook 4 0r 5 of the member l with the bar l1 the garment may be fastened either tightly or loosely as may be desired. i
My` improved garment fastener is eX- tremely simple in construction, is strong and durable, may be used on garments of any kind, whether made of thick cloth, laces or the like, and entirely obviates the use of but tons and sewing on of common hooks and eys and buttons and the making of button o es.
While I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departing from the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
l. A garment fastener of the class described, comprising a hook member, and a bar member, each provided with open snap eyes for insertion through openings in a fabric, and locking bars for engagement with said open snap eyes.
In a garment fastener of the class describe a hook member made of a single piece of wire and comprising a forwardly extending arm having a hook and rear wardly diverging arms having eyes bent therefrom, in combination with a locking bar for insertion through said eyes.
In testimony whereof I aIiX my signature.
IKLEYV C. `IPIIFE.
