Description

C. E GOULD. Improvement in Devices for Locking Drawers. No. 129,404. Patented July 16, 1872.
UNITED STATES PA ENT QFFICE.
CHARLES E. GOULD, OF NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR LOCKING DRAWERS.
Specification lorming part of Letters Patent No. 129,404, dated July 16,1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Locks designed to Fasten Drawers in Bureaus, Sewing-Machines, &c., invented by CHARLES E. GOULD, of Northampton, in the county of Hampshire and the State of Massachusetts.
My invention is a device to lock two or more drawers with a single key at one operation; and consists in a method of operating a sliding bar with projectinglugs or points to catch into notches in the several drawers, so that the movement of the bar locks and unlocks all the drawers at once.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front elevation, showing side of case, with locking mechanism. Fig. 2 is an elevation of inside of case, showing section of locking device and of one drawer locked. Fig. 3 is the same as Fig. 2 unlocked.
A represents a disk and hub of metal set into the side of drawer-case F, Fig. 1. At a suitable distance from the center of disk A is fixed a pin, 1?, which enters slot C in sliding bar B. A groove, G, is made in the side of case F, Fig. 1, to admit the bar B. On the bar B are projecting lugs L, one for each drawer. R R are rails on which the drawers slide, with notches to admit the lugs L when unlocked, Fig. 3. D in Fig. 2 shows position of drawer locked, the lugs L entering into the notch N in the top edge of the drawer.
A half revolution of the disk A carries bar B from one extreme to the other to lock or unlock, sliding in groove Gr, Fig. 1. By the pin P sliding in the slot C the pin P holds the bar B fixed in either position. This pin can be made in the form of an eccentric. A key, K, is fitted to the hub of disk A to operate the lock.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the disk A, pin or eccentric P, bar B, slot C, and lugs L, substantially as shown, for the purpose of fastening a series of drawers.
CHARLES E. GOULD.
