DENTAL 'canmnr AND LABORATORY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2'1, 1919.
Application filed April 25, 1918. Serial No. 281,965.
To all whom it may concern: 4
Be it known that I, WALTER S. P onrnn,
a citizen of the United States, res ding in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and provement in a Dental Cabinet and useful of which the following 1s a Laboratory, specification.
y invention relates to improvements in 'ture for dental oflices and :the like wherein a dental cabinet is provided with a laboratory space and drawer units, containing tools and other requirements necessary for the practice of the profession, whichv operate to inclose and conceal the laboratory when not in use.
The primary object of the present inven 1s to provide an improved dental cabicontaining a concealable laboratory space wherein laborato work such as grinding, swaging, polishing and other operations producing debris may be carried on.
tion
Another object of the invention is to provide a. cabinet of the character described having extensions which may be used to screen the cabinet and laboratory space when in use and also to serve in conjunction with v the cabinet as a partition to divide a room means of the device disclosed in or ofiice into reception and working compartments thereby eliminating the necessity of building a permanent partition.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a laboratory or working space which may be closed with chests or units of drawers containing drugs and medicines or dental tools readily accessible to the operator and adjacent to the dental chair without exposing the laboratory section or space.-
V I accomplish these several the drawlngs forming a part of the present specification wherein like characters of reference are used to designate similar garts throughoutthe said specification and rawings, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the cabinet closed to conceal the laboratory space Fig. 2 is anend elevation of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a broken front elevation of the cabinet arranged to disclose and render accessible the laboratory space;
Fig. 4. is a broken plan view of the cabinet; and
objects by I Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on hne 55 of Fig. 1 in the direction indicated. Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 is used to designate in general a chest of drawers having a continuous top 2 and an open space 3 for the storing of power units required such as a motor 4 operating an air compressor 5, and a container 6.
The chest of drawers 1 is provided with a vertically disposed back portion 7 having forwardly extending cabinets 8 secured near 1the top or upper portion of said back por- A forwardly extending horizontally disposed shelf 9 is secured to the back portion 7 and end pieces 11 and spaced between the 8 and the top 2 of the chest of drawers 1 so as to rovide a laboratory space A between said she f 9 and said top 2, within whlch space A may be mounted laboratory accessories such as a power unit B, vise 0, burner D for heatin purposes, cement box E, and swaging bloc G which latter is set flush with the top 2 of the chest of drawers 1, as disclosed in Fig. 5"of the drawings.
dditional drawer units 12 mounted as at 14 to the end cabinet and are arranged tomove over and flush with the front of the chest of drawers 1 and the top of the shelf 9 to inclose the laboratory space A when not in use as die A flexible electric connection or cord 16 leads from the top 2 of the 1, at a point adjacent one of the end 11, to one of the additional as disclosed in Figs. 3 and ieoes drawer units 12, 4 of the drawmgs, to connectionson a suitable electrical switch-board 17 secured to the front central corner of oneiof the additional drawer units 12.
Doors 19 are hingedly mounted upon the front of the chest of drawers 1 to inclose the front of said chest and the space 3 therein.
Vertically disposed extensions 21 are slidably mounted upon the back of the back portlon 7 and are arranged to'be extended beyond the ends of the cabinet as disclosed 1n F1gs. 3 and 4 of the drawings, so that sa1d cabinet and extensions 21 when extended may be used as a partition to screen the laboratory and also to serve as a partition between a reception compartment and chest of drawers a working compartment within the same' 1 tools and dental instruments are readily accessible to the-dentist or operator and adjacent to the operatingchair, when the-doors 19 are opened.
If any laboratory work should suddenly become necessary the operator will not be required to go into another room or use another room for such laboratory work but by moving the additional drawer units 12 away from the shelf 9 and the top 2 of the chest of drawers 1 he exposes and renders accessible the laboratory space A, as disclosed in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings.
When through with such work the units 12 may be again'moved flush with the front of I the chest of drawers 1 and the shelf, 9 to again conceal the laboratory space A.
Having thusdescribed my invention what 1 I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isp 1. In an article of manufacture, a dental cabinet and laboratory comprising a chest of drawers havin a continuous top and anopen space un er the top for power units;
a back portion extending upward from the chest of drawers; a horizontally disposed shelf extending forward from the back 'portion and spaced above the chest of drawers 'to' form a space for laboratory'tools and accessories; and additional chests of drawers mounted to move flush with the top of the shelffland the front of'the first named chest 7 of drawers to inclose the space under the the laborator a sences shelf and to move away from said" first named chest of drawers and shelfto render space accessible; and vertically dis ose extensions slidably mounted on the ack of the first named chest of drawers and the back portion to move beyond the ends of the cabinet to screen the laboratory space when exposed.
2. In an'article of manufacture, a dental cabinet and laboratory comprising a chest of drawers having a continuous top and a centrally disposed open space beneath said top for the reception of power units; doors mounted to inclose the space and the drawers; a back portion extending above the top of the chest of drawers; forwardly extending cabinets mounted upon the upper portion of the back portion; a forwardly extendingl horizontally disposed shelf-mounted upon t e back portion and spaced between the cabinets and the chest of drawers to provide a laboratory space between said shelf andchest of drawers; suitable dental accessories mounted within the space; and additional drawer units hingedly mounted above the first named chest of drawers and on each end thereof to swing flush with the front of the first named chest of drawers and with the top of the shelf to inclose the laboratory space and providea continuous plane with the shelf and to swing away from said shelf and drawers to render the laboratory space accessible; and vertically disposed exten-- sions slidably mounted upon the back of the first named chest ofdrawers and back portion rising therefrom to move beyond the ends of the said first named chest ofdrawers to screen the laboratory space and cabinet.
In witness whereof'I hereunto set my signature.
