Beit known-that I, LINCOLN ISHAM, a citi- Zen of the `n`ited States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements" in Banjo-Shares, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.`` j

Thisinvention relates to snaresespe'cially designedv for use on banjos" togive an effect 'when' thebanjo" is played similar to thatof a sn'are drum;

One object'of the invention 'is' to provide al snare which may be quickly attached to any banjo or similar instrument and de-v tached therefrom as occasion requires without altering'the' instrumentl in any way or marring its appearance. In a snare for banjos, the combination with a clamp having membersadapted to grip the rim of the head of the instrument, of a bead on one clamp member to bridge the rim, a flangeon said member beyond t e bead, said flange having perforations there in, snare cords looped throughsaid perforations, a cover plate to slidingly engage said flange for locking the cords thereto, and a `lip on said plate to fit against said bead when the rplate is in place on'the flange.

6. The combination with a clamp having two members each having means at one end to engage one edge of the rim of a banjo and a slot in its intermediate portion, a bent portion at the other end of each' member having notches to slidingly engage the edges of the slot in the other member, and a coiledspring interposed between said bent end portions of the members for-the purpose specified.

7. The combination rwith a clamp having two members, each having a slot in its intermediate portion,vof means at one endY of r.eachmember for engagingone edge of the rim of a banjo, means yat the other end of each member lto slidingly engage the edges of the slot in the other member, and a coiled `.spring interposed between said slot-engag- .ing means on the two members for the purpose specified. The Vcombination with a clamp having two members each having a slot in its intermediate portion, of means at one end of each member for engaging one edge of the rim of aV banjo, a bent portion at the other end of ieach member engaging the slot of the other member, and a spring interposed be# tween the bent end portions of the two members for the purpose specified, the diameter ioo of the spring being greater than the width of the slots and than the space between the members, whereby said spring isretained in position. l 1V 4 9. The combination with a clamp having having a slot in itsintermediate portion, of means; at one end of each, member for engaging one edge of the rim of a banjo, a bent portion at the other endl of each member having notchesto-enber, one of said slots having inclined lateral extensions to permit the passage therethrough of the 'ends ofthe bent portion of the otherV member when said ends beyondthe said inclined extensions of the slot, and va coiledspring interposed between-the bent end Vportions of the members `for the purpose specified. 10.
