RUBBER HEEL FOB. SHOES.
Application filed April 16, 1918. Serial No. 228,8l5.
To all whom it ma'y'concern subject of the King of Italy,
Be it known that I, Ar'romo Tnomivo, a residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and .useful 11nprovements in Rubber Heels for Shoes; and I do herebydeclarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,- reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letteis and figures of reference, marked thereon,
which form a part of this specification.
- This invention relates to new and useful ln'iprovements 1n lifts for the heels of shoes 1 and consists essentially in the provision of a lift of resilient material :and of uniform thickness, and having a portion of its upper surface fiat and oval-outlined with a sur rounding beveled portion comprising the major part ofthe entire upper surface of the lift, and soformed that when fastening nails are driven throughthe angle intermediate the fiat and beveled surfaces, the lift will be .held securely against the heel, the beveled or inclined portion being held under greater pressure against the heel than. the
- fiat surface, thereby preventing loosening of the lift incident to thrusts upon the marginal edge thereof. a
The invention consists of further details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings andthph specificallydefined in the appended claim. 7
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference markedthereon, form. a art of this specification and in which: v
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the appllcation of my lift-to the heel of a' shoe.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of theheel in a reversed position to that shown in Fig. l.-
' Fig. 3 is a sectional View showing the lift in contact with the heel and before being nailed down.
Fig. 4; is a detail perspective View of the lift. l
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 5 -5 of Specification of Letters Pateht. Patnted the lift against the bottomof theheel will. be held Fig. 2, illustrating the lift secured to theheel,
and
Fig.6 is an end view of the lift detached from heel. v
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:' A lift, which is made of a resilientmaterial, such as rubber, is of uniform thickness throughout its length and breadth and has a ccntral elongated ogal-outlined flat part E'of its upper surface surrounded by a beveled or inclined port-ion A, the ends B of which terminate flush with the forward ends of the lift and said flat part.
It will be nUl'lKllllilt said inclined or beveled portion comprises the major portion of the upper surface of the lift and also that there is a clear angular line of demarcation luahvecn the flat and beveled mrtions,-this being deemed essential in the formation of :a lift from which best, results are obtained when the same is fastened to the heel of a shoe; Nails F are driven through the lift along the angular i'nargin between said flat and beveled portions thereof, thus drawing and when thus fastened, it will be noted that the entire beveled snugly against the bottom of Jan. ltd, 1919.
portion of the upper surface the heel with greater pressure than the flat portion and owing to the area of the beveled port on being the 11121301 part of the entire areaof the upper surface of the'lift, the
latter will snugly bind against the heel and' be prevented from loosening incident to thrusts u-pon the marginal edges of the lift.
It'has'been found from practicethat lifts frequently become' loosened and distorted from their positions where the upper surface of the lift is formed otherwise than inthe manner herein shown and described.
What I claim to be new is:
A lift for shoes, comprising a piece of resilient material of substantially uniform thickness throughout its length and breadth, and having an elongated central ovahfou-tlined flat part upon its upper surface with surrounding beveled more than one-half of the entire surface of the lift, the ends 'of, said beveled portions terminating flush with the forward edge of portion comprising Ice the lift and. said flat part the elements 0f the beveled portion consisting of straightlines at angles to the flat portion, and fastening' means passing through the lift and through the angle intermediate said fiat and beveled parts, and adapted. to hold the lift against the bottom of the heel of a shoe; causing the beveled part of the lift to he held against the heel With eweater preesnre memes;
