Be 'it known that I, FRANZ A. FULLER, a
citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of ,Xew Jersey, have invented certain new' and useful Improvements in Safety- Razors of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable'oth'ers skilled in th art to which it p rtains to make, construct, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawi1'1gs,,aiul to numerals of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is the production of a safety razor which shall be simple in construction, compaatively inexpensive in cost, and provided with means for seeurely holding a detachable blade in position, and also provided with means for securing a detachable razor blade sharpening device thereto forth .and pointed outin the claims. lVhile With this end inview, my invention consists 1n certain novelt es of construction and arrangements of parts, as hereinafter set tl1e,1 ljifel,letl formsrof my invention are illustratedin the accompanying drawmgs,
yet is to be understood that minor detail changes may be made without departing from the'scop'e thereof.

Similarnumerals of reference refer to like parts throughoutthe specification and drawto provide resilient clamping jaws to receive the razor blade between themselves, and fur the! bent to receive a pintle 3, the ends of which are enlarged or riveted over as at 4:, and by means of which the blade holder is slidably and pivotally connected to the frame 5. This blade holder is also provided with two pressed-out portions 23 on one of the clamping jaws of the blade holder, to engage with two apertures inthe blade 1 to firmly secure and prevent the accidental displacement of the blad 1 from said holder 2.
The frame 5 is preferably made of sheet metal, stamped and formed from a single q blank, and so constructed as to grip the blade 1 at the front corners, the sharpened edge of the blade resting upon the bent-over guard 6, which is provided with the usual perforations 7, the free end of which is bent far beyond the guard 6, to at all times mainQ tam the cutting edge of the razor blade in the proper and adjusted position relative to the guard teeth. These stops 8 may, for convenience sake be formed integral with the frame 5.

These ends 25 also serve as convenient stops, which engage with the rear edgeof the frame 5,
The forward and outer end of the guard to limit the rearward movement of the blade holder 2.
An elongated slot 1% is centrally arranged in the frame 5. to receive the rectangularlug 15, which is preferably formed integrally on the under side of the blade holder 2, and by means of which, together with the locking bar 16, the blade is locked p in its adjusted position.
' The loclzing bar IQ is slidably mounted in a housing 17, which is secured to the under side of the frame 5 by means of iii- .20, to the same depth as the rear of the slot 14, to receive the rectangular lug 15. formed on the blade holder 2. The locking bar'is preferably a piece of fiat sheet -'metal ,vstamped and formed from a single blank, and provided with down-turned ends or push members 28, whereby the locking bar can be moved in either direction.
19'represehts a recess or cut-away por- .fiOIl, extending inwardly from the front edge of the locking bar, so that when the locking bar is moved as far as possible in one direction, the recess or cut-away portion 19 thereof, will register with the slot 14. and permit the lug 15 of the blade holder 2 to pass through the slot 14 of the frame and through the recess 19. as well as through the cut-away portion 20 in the housing 17 in order that the locking bar .might be moved as far as possible in the opposite direction, thereby causing the edge of the locking bar, adjacent the recess 19. to engage with the lug 15, to lock the blade holder with its attached blade, in its adjested position.
An elongated slot 21 and an integral loop 22arranged adjacent to said slot, is formed near the rear edge of the frame 5, to provide means for securing a razor blade sharpening device, forming the subject matter of a co-pending application, and by means of said .device, the cutting edge of the blade,
lying. adjacent to the guard maybe sharpened without removing the blade from the frame.
To operate my razor, the blade holder 2,
with a razor blade therein, is moved from the position illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, into the position illustrated in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, by moving the locking bar 16 in the direction of the arrow as indicated in Fig. 5, into the position shown in dotted lines in said figure, thereby causing the rectangular lug 15 of the blade holder. The blade holder 2, with its attached blade, is then moved over the' guide 24 and side pieces 9, thereby disengaging the cutting edge of the blade from the stops 8. After the blade holder has been moved into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, it is then 1 swung into the vertical position shown in said figure, in order to cleanse the blade 0},711 to remove the same from the holder, or to'- attach the sharpening device 26, said sharpening device being provided on its under side with a lug corresponding to the lug 15, whereby the said device is locked to the. frame 5 in substantially the same manner as the blade holder 2. v
The present invention provides a very efficient and exceedingly simple safetv razor, the same being constructed of a minimum number of parts. and reduced to the simplest operative etiiciency, said parts being of such shape as to lend themselves readily to manufacture by the use of suitable punches and dies from ordinary sheet metal.
I am aware that changes may be made in the several arrangements of the various parts, as well as in the details of construction thereof. without departing from the scope of my present invention; hence I do not wish to be limited to the arrangements and combinations of parts as herein shown and described, as obvious modifications will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art.
I claim:
1. A safety razor con'iprising a frame having guard teeth atone edge,a guide for. the face of the razor blade extending across the front of the frame. and a handle extending from the other edge. a blade holder provided with holding means hingedly and slidably connected to the sides of said frame; a blade located in said blade holder, and sliding means slidably secured to the under side of said frame having locking engagement with the holding means on the blade holder for positively adjusting the blade relative to the guard teeth on the frame.
2. A safety razor comprising a frame having guard teeth at one edge, a guide for the face of the razor blade extending across the front of the frame, and a handle extending from the other edge. a blade holder provided with holding means hingedly and slidably connected in alined slots formed in the sides of said frame, a blade located in said blade holder, HIMLAHQEIDS slidably securedto the frame and hflving locking engagement with the holding means on the blade holder, for positively aljusting the blade relat-iveto the guard teeth on the frame.
3. A safety razor comprising a frame havingguard teeth at oneedge, a guide for the face of the razor blade extendingacross the front of the frame, and a handle extending from the other edge, a blade holder provided with holding meanshingedly and slidably connected to the sides of said frame, a blade located in said blade frame.

5. A safety razor comprising a frame having guard teeth at one edge, a guide for the face of the razor blade extending across the front of the frame, and a handle extending from the other edge, a blade holder slidably connected to the sides of said frame, a blade removably located in said blade holder, :1 housing secured to the under side of the frame, and a locking bar slidably located within said housing, having locking engagement with the blade holder for positively adjusting the blade relative-to the guard teeth on the frame.
6. A safety razor comprising a frame having guard teeth at one edge, a guide for the face of the razor blade extending across the front of the frame, and ahandle extending from the other edge, a blade holder provided with resilient clamping jaws to receive the blade between themselves shdably connected to the sides of said frame, a blade located between the clamping jaws of said blade holder, a housing secured to the under side of the frame, and a locking bar slidably locatediwithin said housing, having locking engagement wit hthe blade holder for positively adjusting the blade relative to the guard teeth on the frame.
7. A safety razor comprising a frame having a guide and guard teeth at one edge, said guide extending across the front of the frame, and a handle extending from the other edge, said frame being further provided with means for positioning a blade sharpening device thereto, a blade holder hingedly and slidably connected to the sides of said frame, a blade located in said blade holder, and means slidably secured to the frame having locking engagement with the blade holder for positively adjusting the blade relative to the guard. teeth on the frame.
8. A safety razor con'iprising a frame having guard teeth and a guide at one end said guide extending upwardly and across the front of the frame and a handle extending from the other edge, said frame being further provided with means for positioning a bladesharpening device thereto, a blade holder provided with resilient clamping jaws to receive the blade between themselves slidablv and hingedly connected to the sides of said frame and guided by the tops of said sides, a blade located between the clamping jaws of said blade holder. one of the clamping jaws provided with holding means. a housing secured to the under side of the framepro vided with an opening. a locking bar slidablv located within said housing provided with a cut-awa portion. the holding means formed on one of the clamping jaws designed to be received into the opening in the housing and the cut-awa portion of the locking bar and to have locking engagement with the locking bar for positively adjusting the blade holder relative to the guard teeth on the frame.
