COLLAR-BUTTON moron.
Application filed April 29, 1918. Serial No. 231,385.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AGNES SNYDER, a at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis, tate of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Collar-Button Notch; and I do hereby declare the following to .be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The presentinvention relates to a button hole construction, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which is especially adapted for use in connection with collars and similararticles of apparelwhich are ordinarilyheld in position by double headed buttons, such as collar buttons, the
object of the invention being to' provide a novelbutton hole which can be placed in engagement with a collar button without any of the annoyance which is frequently incident to inserting a collar button through an ordinary button hole.
Further objects of the invention are tov provide a button hole construction which will not materially increase the cost of the collar or other article of apparelin which it is embodied, which can be quickly engaged with or disengaged from a collar button, and which will "enable the collar or other article of apparel to be held firmly in position by means of the collar button.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description pro.-
, ceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:-- 1
Figure l i-s a plan view of a collar provided with button holes constructed in accordance withllfie invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of one end of the collar. v
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the middle portion of the collar.
. Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
While the button hole construction may be used to advanta e in connection with any article of appare which is to be secured in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. '7, 1919.
position by the use of a collar button, it has been shown for the purpose of illustration as embodied in a turn down collar of which the numeral 1 designates the back or body portion, and the numeral .2 the turn down or flap portion. One of-the end tongues is provided with a conventional button hole 3, the other end tongue being provided with a small opening 4 and a large upwardly ofi'set opening 5. The opening 4 is'of just the proper size to receive the shank of an ordinary collar button, while the opening 5 is sufliciently large to admit of the head of a collar button being inserted through the same. These two openings are connected by a tortuous or angular slot 6 through which the shank of the collar button can be readily moved from one of the openings'to the other opening. At the intersection of the smaller openlng 4 and the slot 6 a pair of the collar button from working its way out V of the small opening 4 while the collar is being worn. The middle of the back 1 of the collar is provided with a small opening 8 and a longitudinally oflset large opening 9., said openings being connected as in the previous instance by a narrow tortuous or angular slot 10, and rounded cars 11 being provided at the-intersection of the narrow slot'and small opening. The large opening 9 is offset longitudinally from the small opening 8, for the reason that the back of the collar is fastened in position before the end flaps are secured, and the collar can readily be moved longitudinally at that time to shift theishank of the collar button from the larger opening 9 into the smaller opening 8. After the back of the collar has been secured the end tongue provided with the usual button hole 3 is fastened in position. There is seldom any difiiculty in fastening the first erid tongue upon the collar its button, and an; ordinary button hole is accordingly satisfactory at;;th1s place. After be accomplished without difliculty or annoyance, and the collar is then fastened securely in Iposition.
aving thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein described 'button hole construction adapted for engagement with a collar button, said construction including a small opening of a size to receive the button shank and a large opening of a size to receive the button head, said openings having a spaced relation and being connected by a narrow slot formed with a series of short straight portions intersecting each other at said ears being flexible and cooperating with each other to provide a restricted passage through which the shank of the buttoncan be forcibly pushed, although it is locked against accidental movement out of the small opening.
i In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
