' HOLDER ronoorlnans. v
Application filed May 20,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ASA L. SAWYER, citizen of the United States, and resident of East Providence, county of Providence, State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in-Holders for Collars; of which the following is a specification. p
This invention relates to holders tor collars particularly soft collars ottheturnQ To some extent effort has been made to overcome this trouble by wearing a clip or pin or similar holding means for holding the portionsof the collar adjacent to the front vent or opening in position. To some extent also a holder comprising two buttons soldered to the ends of a connecting bar has been used, but this style of holder is not available for use unless the collar is made with appropriately located button-holes.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a device of this kind that can be used on collars of this type whether provided with such button-holes or not which shall be capable of satisfactorily serving the purpose intended, while at the same time, producing a 'sightly appearance.
In the accompanying drawings 1 have illustrated specific applications of the principles of this invention in which 7 Figure l is a front elevation of a collar with the adjacent turn-down portions held in proper position by a holder made in accordance with this invention;
Figure 2 is a rear or reverse view of the complete collar holder;
Figure 3 is a similar view of a collar holder with the detachable buttonremoved;
Figure l is a plan view showing the two flaps of the collar in section;
Figure 5 is a similar View showing the same modified form of construction.
According to the principles of my invention as illustrated in the first four figures of the drawing, the collar holder comprises an opposed bar pin a, one end of whichis tapered to a short point and is also provided Specification of Letters Patent.
. Pateiitsd A1 2 1922.

with an annularrecess or groove a. The opposite end of the'bar or pin member is bent at an angle to the main axis of the pin to form a short shank a to the endofwhich is soldered or otherwise secured'a button member'b.
The button for the other end of the coni necting bar or pin, acornprises thehead 0- i tothe rear-face ofwhich is secured a clasp or clip. in this form 'comprisingaftubular member; 0 subdivided by a slot into opposed spring jaws. c which are formed withxan annular indented rib 0 adapted to form a detachable engagement with the recess a of the pin. V
The longitudinal bore of this clip member 0 is of a size to snugly fit the pin a so that asthe pin is forced into the clip and comes into engagement with the holding rib 0 the resilientjaws expand slightly until the rib registers, with the groove or recessa into which it springs thus detachably securing the button in place. j
, In practice the detachable button 0 is removed from the pin or bar which is then inserted through the opposite flaps of the collar e at the appropriate points with the point projecting outside of the second flap of the collar.
The button c'isthen forced over the point until its clip springs into locking engagement with the recess a. In Flgure 5 I have shown a modified form of the pin member a which 1s in all respects similar to the construction previously described except thatat a short distance from the locking recess a the pin is bent forward to form an offset to provide a shortshank "which passes transversely through the collar and protrudes outside in position to receive the detachable buttonc. I
Obviously this construction of holder may be used whether the turn-down portions of the collar are provided with holes for'the pin or whether they areleft imperforate as the pin can be forced, through the fabric itself.
I It will be observed that both the fixed button and the detachable button lie. in a plane substantially parallel to the main axis of the connecting bar but laterally offset there--.
from, and that in both forms of the invention the rearwardly extending clip or detachable holdingmember is arranged so that its pin receiving socket or tube lies substantially parallel with the rear face of thebutton. inf
being formed with a-fabric piercing point and being formed with a recess adjacent to said point, and a second button provided on its rear face With a pin engaging member adapted to enclose said point in offset-relation thereto and form a detachable engagement With said recess, substantially as described. r
2. A collar holder of the class described embracing in its construction a longitudinal bar or 'pln one end of which 1s turned at an angle to the main axis thereof, a collar-em gaging button secured thereto, the other end of said pin being formed with a fabric piercing point and being formed to have a 'gagement With the pin member detachable engagementwith a second button, said second button being provided on its rear face with a 'rearwardly extending holding member 'formedvwvith a transverse pin-receiving bore constructed to form an interlocking engagement With the pointed end of said pin, substantially as described.
3. collar holder of the class described embracing in its, construction a longitudinal I pin member having a collar-engaging button permanently secured to one end thereof, a detachable button forconnection with the other end of said pin member, said detachable but-ton being provided with a rear \vardly extending pin engaging member pro vided with a pin receiving bore extending parallel to the rear face of the button and adapted to have interlocking spring en substantially as described.
' In witness whereof, I have subscribed'the 1 above specification. Y
