Description

Patented Sept. 9, 1924.-
MAE P.. DAY, E CASPER, WYOMING.
BUTTON SNAP.
Application. led July 17, 1923. Serial No. 652,143.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAE R. DAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Casper, in the county of Natrona and State of IVyoming, have invented a new and useful Button Snap, of which the following is a specification. l
This invention relates to garment Ifasteners and more particularly to those of the separable type.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character the parts of Which when engaged Will remain secure until manually released.
With the foregoing and other objects in vien7 which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combin-ation and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed Without departing from the spirit of the'invention.
In the accompanying drawings;-
Figure 1 represents a plan View of one member of the fastener.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sec-tion thereof taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of thel other member of the fastener. l
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section showing the fastener Withthe members in closed position. y
In the embodiment illustrated'the member 1 is composed of sheet metal folded to form a double Walled structure with the Walls 2 and 3 spaced apartand the Wall 2 eX- tended at one end beyond the adjacent end of Wall 3. The Wall 2 has a hump 4 formedy therein by indenting it which indentation or hump extends into a slot 5, arranged longitudinally in Wall 3 and openino` through the end of said Wall located adJacent the extension in Wall 2. This member 1 is provided at its four corners with apertures 6 to receive the threads for connecting it to the garment.
The cooperating member 10 shown in Figs. 3 and 4 is composed of a plate of meta-l having apertures 11 at its corners for securing it to a garment and provided With an `out struck tongue 12 the neck 13 of Which is `offset so that when the device is applied said tongue Will enter the slot 5 of the cooperating member 1 and a hump 14 formed therein Willfit over the hump 4 of member .i l
The tongue 12 is of a vious that the members 1 and 10 When en-4 gaged in the manner above set forth Will be securely held.` against accidental release and cannot be disengaged until slid manually oneI on the other to release tongue 12 from slot 5..
Various changes in the form, shape, proportion and other minor details of construction may be made Without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the claimed invention.
I claim v:-
A separable garment yfastener comprising a. double Walled member having an, open slot in one Wall the other Wall being unyieldable and having a nib extending into said slot, anda cooperating member having an offset spring tongue equipped with a socket, said tongue being of a diameter greater than the slot in the other member and designed to enter said member between the Walls thereof, said tongue having a neck operating in said slot, the socket in the tongue being designed to fit over the nib in the other member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my o-vvn, I haveyhereto afliXed my signature in the presence of tvvo Witnesses.
MAE It. DAY.
