Description

J. D. ROTH.
FASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 24, 1919.
Patented N 0v. 4, 1919.
FFIQ.
JAMES D. ROTH, OF WATERIBURY, CONNECTICUT.
FASTENER.
Application filed June 24, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMns D. Born, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVaterbury, in'the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to male and female fasteners, the principal object being to provide a fastening of this type which will effectively secure the meeting edges of two objects, such as storm curtain sections, together.
A further object of the invention is to provide a detachable fastening which comprises a resilient male member and an eyelet for the reception of the same; the eyelet being of such a construction as to be secured to the curtain in such a manner as to obviate tearing or enlarging the opening in the curtain, the eyelet being crimped to the curtain so that a groove is afforded for receiving resilient tongues carried by the male member; the male member being constructed so as to permit the removal of the resilient tongues and the replacing of the same by new ones should it be necessary to do so.
Another object is to provide a male and female fastener which is simple in construction, consists of few parts, and which may be manufactured and sold at a minimum cost.
with the above and other objects and advantages in mind the invention consists of combination of elements, constructions and arrangements and general assemblage, the details of which will be hereinafter enlarged upon and recited in the subjoined claims.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an end elevation of the male fastener;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same parts being shown in section;
Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the op posite end of a male fastener;
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the device in applied position;
Fig. 5 is a. like view showing the member in longitudinal section; i
Fig. 6 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation of the eyelet for cooperation with the male fastener;
Fig. 7 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation of the eyelet? Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 4, 1919.
Serial No. 306,307.
Fig. 8 is a view showing the two parts as applied to a curtain; and
Fig. 9 is a longitudinal sectional View taken on line 99 of Fig. 8.
On the drawing, like characters of reference indicate like parts in all the views.
The male member consists of sleeve 5 provided with barbs 6 at one end to be em bedded in the object upon which the male member is supported, the opposite end of the sleeve being formed with an inturned flange 7 having a central opening 8 therein which receives a screw or other fastening 9 which is disposed within the sleeve and engaged with the object indicated at 10. Openings 11 are formed in the sleeve at diametrically opposite points through which project the curved heads 12 formed upon the extremities of the resilient arms or tongues 13 which extend from a resilient arcuate plate 14 accommodated within the sleeve 5.
An eyelet for cooperation with the male member is provided and consists of a pair of transversely curved plates 15 to be arranged upon the opposite sides of the curtain indicated at 16 and each of which is formed with a sleeve 17 passing through the curtain, one being received by the other and crimped together. The crimping of the sleeves affords an annular groove 18 upon the inner face of the sleeve which receives the heads 12 when the male member is engaged with the eyelet.
The construction illustrated and described is considered the preferred embodiment of the invention but it will be understood that the same may be modified in many respects and that limits of modification are only governed by what is claimed.
What is claimed is 1. In a fastening, an eyelet comprising a pair of plates to be'arranged upon opposite sides of a sheet, a sleeve carried by each of the plates and passing through the sheet, one of which being received by the other, the sleeves being crimped together and affording an annular groove upon the inner sleeve, in combination with a male member to be received by the eyelet and provided with spring tongues adapted to engage in the groove.
2. In a fastening, an eyelet provided with an interiorly disposed annular groove, a male member to be received by the eyelet,
and oppositely disposed resilient arms carried by the male member to engage in the groove. 7
3. In a male memberfor cooperation with a female member a sleeve having openings therein at diametrically opposite points and further provided With an inturned flange at one end thereof having a central opening, a fastening extending through the opening and through the sleeve and securing the same to an oloject an arcuate resilient plate positioned in the sleeve parallel tongues formed on the plate and terminating in heads Which project through the openings and adapted for engagement with 15 the female member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto a'liixed my signa- WVitnesses:
EDWIN W. MooRING, MARY E. REID.
