COUNTER REFRIGERATOR. APPucATxoN man ocT.5.1s14.
Patented Dec. 31, 1918.
. 'E SAS CHARLES J'. KOCH, OF EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
COUNTER-REFRIGERATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ratentea nee. er, reis.
Application filed October 5, 1914. Serial No. 865,156.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. KOCH, u citizen of the United States, residin at Easton, in the county of Northampton, tate of Pennsylvannia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Counter-Refrigerators; and I dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willy enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in refrigerators, and particularly to counter refrigerators.
One object of the invention is to provide a novel counter refrigerator in which butter, cheese or lard can be handled in an easy and sanitary way.
Another object is to provide a device of this character by means of which the material can be handled and cut outside of the refrigerator without the loss of cold air from the interior of the refrigerator.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a refrigerator made in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal transverse sectional View through the refrigerator showing the refrigerator door in open position so that access may be had to the cheese.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary inverted perspective view of a portion of-the platform and the door 12 to better show the lugs and eyes.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 represents a suitable cabinet which is provided with the glass panels 11 to permit a view of the interior while at the same time cold air is prevented from escaping. A door 12 also provided with a glass panel is carried in the front of the cabinet and has on its lower inner face a pair of outwardly extending eye members 13. A quadrant-shaped platform 14 is disposed to move in the doorway and has a pair of depending lugs l5 which are disposed in the eyes 13 and support one of the flat sides of the platform against the inner face of the door, the other flat side being disposed with- -in the cabinet. On the platform is mounted a turn table 16 on whichis adapted to be supported a piece of cheese or butter or a receptacle containing lard. Secured to the bottom of the platform at-the angle formed between the inner straight side and the inner end of the curved side is a caster wheel 17 which bears on the floor of the cabinet and supports the inner endof the platform during its inward and outward movement when the door 12 is closed or open. Hinged to l"the inner side of the front wall of the cabinet, at a point adjacent the hinged connection of the transparent door 12 is a door 18 which is formed from a sheet of glass. The lower edge of this door, and at the outer end, is disposed between a pair of vertically extending pins 20 which holds the door in proper position on the platform to move therewith, as the door l2 is opened and closed. The pins further form guides for the auxiliary door, which, when moved on its hinges, will have a slight transverse movement, and as the door is relatively smooth, it will engage with the pins at each side thereof, and the movement in this direction will not be interfered with and in the end it will be aided. When the door 12 is opened, the platform 14 will be disposed outside of the cabinet and the door 18 covering the entrance opening of the cabinet. This will effectively stop any cold air from escaping from the cabinet and at the same time disposes the cheese or butter or other commodity outside of the cabinet in a position to be easily out or otherwise handled. When the door 12 is moved into closed posin tion, the platform moves inwardly carrying the door 18 with it.
It will be noted that the lugs 15 loosely engage in the eyes 13 so that the platform can be readily taken out when it is desired to clean the same, the door 18 remaining in position within the cabinet.
Attention is called 20 are removable from the platform, whereby the glass door 18 may be swung farther inwardly and permit the platformto be swung outwardly with the door 12 and thus render the removal of eyes 13, and the Complete removal of the platform. The` peculiar construction and arrangement of the lugs and eyes is clearly shown in Fig. 5.
to the fact that the pins Attention is also directed to the fact that as the door 12 is swung outwardly and the platform is drawn through the doorway therewith, the glass door 18 will be swung on its hinges into such position as to completely close the doorway, While at theA same time the outer portion of the permitted al free sliding movement between the pins 20, to eompensate'for the difference in positions of the pivotal points of the two doors.
The depending lugs 15, passed downwardly through the eyes 13 receive transverse removable pins 21 therethrough, these bein@ Clearly shown in Figs. Qand 5. By provi ing a glass panel in the door 1Q and forming the interior of the cabinet is'at all times visible from the outside, so that it `can' be known whether the Cabinet is clean or not.
Copies of this patent may be' obtained for ve cents each, by addressing' the f -Washington, 10.0.
A Cabinet having a door opening, lan eX- terior closure for the opening, a shelf conneeted tosaid closure and movable therewith into and part way out of the cabinet when the closure is moved into and out of Closing position, said shelf extending laterally beyond one wall of the opening, a hingedelosure for the opening within the cabinet resting slidably upon said laterally extending ortion of the shelf. and spaced pins upon theshelf, between which the second named closure stands for lateral movement with and slidable movement of the shelf.
