IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED-BOTTOMS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No, 128,905, dated July 9, 1872.
SPECIFICATION. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN PUFFEu, of Oxford, in the county of Ghenango and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and do hereby declare that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawing, hereinafter referred to, forms a full specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature of my said improvements, by which the same may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent.
My invention relates to that class of bedbottoms which rest on spiral springs; and the nature thereof consists in certain modifications in the details of the construction of the same, hereinafter described and shown.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates my invention and forms a part of the specification thereof, Figure 1 is a view in perspective. Fig. 2 is a view of the central support detached from the frame.
The construction, operation, and arrangement of the various parts of my invention are described as follows:
In the drawing referred to, the transverse slats A are secured to the longitudinal bars B, which are divided into sections b, and the ends of which are connected together by the hinges (l. The said bars B rest upon the spiral springs D, which are secured to the lower longitudinal bars E. The said bars E each consist of parts e 6, connected together by the hinges F in such a manner that the head-section b of the bed may be raised and made to occupy an inclined position, as shown in Fig. 7
1. The said head-section is held in place when raised by the board H, which is hinged to the frame and catches behind the cross-piece I of the same. The central support consists of the longitudinal bars K K, connected together by the spiral springs L. The lower bar K is secured to the longitudinal bars M M by means of a screw passing through slots out in the said bars, and provided with a nut. By this construction the support may be moved laterally in such a manner as to accurately adjust the bed in a level position when occupied by persons of different weight.
Having described my invention, I willstate what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent in the following c1auses-that is to say:
I claim-- The longitudinal bars K K, connected together by the spiral springs L L, in combination with a bed-frame provided with springs, as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 1st day of May, 1872.
STEPHEN PUFFER.
