LEWIS S. CHILSON, OF ATTLEBORO. MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR T0 J. M. FISHER COM- PANY, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF RHODE ISLAND.
LOCKET.
Application filed July 31. 1918.
T0 alZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lnwis S. CHILSON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a casing or locket more particularly adapted for the reception of an identification tag such asworn by soldiers and sailors and the object of this invention is to provide such a casing which in addition to the may also carry a picture or other device if desired, and to provide means within the locket for engaging and retaining the tag in position therein.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be, more fully de scribed, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure lis a face view of the casing or locket showing the suspending tape as passing through an eye attached to the outside of the locket.
Fig. 2- is a view showing the two hinged lids of the casing in open position exposing the tag within and the bendable finger engaging the tag.
Fig. 3 is an edge view of the casing closed showing the tag mounted therein partly in section and the bendable retaining finger as engaging the tag to secure it in the locket.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates the casing which is formed of two lids 11 and 1:2 hinged together at 13, one of the lids being provided with a catch post 14 which is designed to engage a corresponding opening 15 in the opposite lid for the purpose of releasably securing these lids together.
One of these lids is provided with an eye member 16 on its outer periphery through which the tape 17 is designed to be passed and by which the locket is suspended from the neck of the wearer.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 24, 1918.
Serial No. 247,475.
The essential feature of the invention is the provision of a bendable finger or mem ber 18 which is secured by solder or otherwise to the inner edge of the locket rim to extend inwardly therefrom.
The casing or locket is primarily for the purpose of receiving an identification tag 19 but the locket may be of a depth sufficient to also receive a picture or other device in the opposite half if desired.
The tag member is preferably formed with an opening or eye 20 therein into which the end of the bendable finger 18 may be depressed for the purpose of securely retaining and locking the tag in position in the casing.
The locket may be of any desired ornamental design and may be employed not only for the purpose of carrying an identification tag but for any other purpose for which it may be adapted.
The foregoing description is directed solely toward the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical. changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claim.
I claim:
A locket comprising two lids hinged together providing a recessed space between them for the reception of an identification tag, a catch for locking said lids closed. and a bendable metal finger connected to and extending inwardly from the inner edge of the locket to engage said tag and retain it in position in the locket.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
