R. F. BARTEL.
SUSPENDERS.
APPLICATlON FILED JAN. 5. 1915.

SUSPENDERS.
Application filed January 5, 1915.
' a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in suspenders, and particularly to the back adjusting cord with its guides. The guides are covered with the webbing of the sus pender so as to prevent contact of said guides with the body or garments of the wearer.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows an elevation of the suspender, Fig. 2 represents a section of Fig. 1 on the line 2, 2, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged section as on the line 3, 3 of Fig. 2.
The suspender is shown with the shoulder straps 20, with the sliding straps 21 at one end of each.
At the other end of each strap 20 is formed a loop 22, the end of which is held by means of the stitching 23 to the body of said strap. A metallic tubular crescentshaped guide 25 is inclosed in each loop with the outside surface thereof covered by the webbing or material composing the shoulder strap. Each of the guides 25, has formed at its ends the retaining hooks 26 which keep the guides in proper position in the loops of the shoulder straps.
The said guides support the back adjusting cord which is indicated in its entirety by the numeral 30 and permit the same to slide. At the lower ends of the adjusting cord 30 are formed the button loops 31, by means of the metallic clips 32.
A triple guide support is indicated in its entirety by the numeral 35 and has formed therewith the upper curved guide 36 and the two side curved guides 37, 38. The upper guide 36 has formed at its ends the retaining hooks 39. A fourth guide 40 similar to 25 has formed therewith the retain- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 549.
ing hooks 41. A back strap band 45 encircles thetriple guide support 35 and the guide support A0. Stitching 46 connects the two legs of the back strap band 45. The retaining hooks 39 of the guide 36 and the hooks 41 of the guide A0 maintain the support 35 and the guide 40 in proper position in the back strap band 45. The adjusting cord 30 supports the upper guide 36 and from which it extends over the guides 25. From the latter the cord is guided and bears against the guides 37 and 38 and ex- From the clips 32 of the loops 31 the cord extends over the guide 40.
It will be noted the cord 30 and the guides constitute flexible and self adjusting connections between the shoulder straps 20 and the button loops 31. A very essential novel point of the invention consists in having all the portions of all the guides protected from the wearers by the webbing of the shoulder straps 20 and the webbing of the back strap band 45.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim 1s:
1. The combination of a detachable tubular crescent shaped guide with retaining hooks at its ends, a strap having a loop formed at its end, the said guide within said loop and said hooks locking with said loop.
2. The combination of a metallic detachable tubular crescent shaped guide with retaining hooks at its ends, a strap having a loop formed at its end, the said metallic guide within said loop and said hooks locking with said loop.
Signed at the borough of Manhattan in the county of New York and State of New York this 30th day of December A. D. 1914;.
. RUDOLPH F. BARTEL.
