Specification of Letters Patent.
. nnaonnr- Patented Dec. 10, 1918.
Application filed September 14, 1918. Serial No. 254,051.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLINTON M. WOLFE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coeburn, in the county of Vise and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in brackets especially designed for use in connection with stove-pipes and adapted for facile attachment to operative positlon on the pipe.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a simple, comparatively ineX pensive device, that may with facility be attached to the stove pipe, and with equal facility, when necessary, be detached therefrom, and which is comparatively simple in construction, durable, and Well adapted for performing the functions for which it is intended.
The invention consists essentially in a device made up of a single piece of wire bent to proper shape, and so fashioned that it provides resilient device adapted to frictionally engage the stove pipe and be rigidly held thereon, when the bracket is either under load or empty.
In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention, constructed and arranged according to the best mode so far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention.
Figure l is a top plan view of the bracket fashioned according to my invention, and shown in connection with a stove pipe that is illustrated in section.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the bracket or shelf, attached to the stove pipe.
Fig. 3 is a detail of the bent ends, of the wire forming the shelf, which are utilized to lock the bracket on the stove pipe.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention as shown in thcdrawing, the shelf or bracket is a circularly shaped device having a series of radially projecting arms 1, here shown as six in number, but it will be readily understood that a larger number or a smaller number of arms may be employed if desired. These arms are disposed horithat may be hung on the arm or supported thereon.
The arms at their inner ends are merged into a circular band 3, which band is interrupted by the downwardly projecting forks formed by the legs a, 41: standing in vertical planes, and joined at the lower ends to form outwardly projecting, horizontal feet 5 that are not so long as the arms 1, but which are preferably equal thereto in number, and formed each with a slightly upturned end 5 forming a retaining hook. Under ordinary or normal conditions these legs formed by the bars 4 4- are disposed in vertical planes ,with the bars parallel, or substantially so, but when the bracket is to be placed on the stove pipe the bars of the legs are spread apart, as indicated in Fig. 2, and because of the resiliency of the wire the device clamps itself on the pipe.
. The adjoining ends 7 and S of the circular band 3 are bent downwardly and the downwardly bent bars 9 10 are provided with outwardly projecting locking ends 9 and 10 respectively, which are twisted to form the lock 11.
Thus when the shelf or bracket is placed about the stove pipe, the two end bars 9- and 10 are hooked over opposite arms, as indicated at 13 and 1d respectively, then the two bars are brought together at their lower ends and the locking ends 9 and 10 are twisted on each other to form the foot 11 and lock the device on the stove pipe.
Due to the resiliency of the wire bracket or shelf the device is clasped tightly about the pipe, and it will readily be seen that the legs ,which are stretched into zigzag shape will support and hold the shelf and its load when placed thereon, and it will be apparent that utensils and other suitable articles may be hung from the several parts of the device and be supported thereby as usual.
What I claim is A stove pipe bracket made of a single piece of Wire and possessing resiliency and comprising a series of horizontal, radial twisted arms having upturned extremities and merging at their inner portions into a circular band, said band being formed With vertical bars bent therefrom and said bars having outwardly bent feet, and the ends of said single piece of wire having doavmvardly bent portions and outwardly bent locking extremities twisted together to retain the 10 device about a stove pipe.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
CLINTON M. WOLFE.
