UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
' IMPROVEMENT IN SNAP-HOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,646, dated July 2, 1872.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM McGEEGoR, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and in the State of N ew Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Snap- Hook; and do hereby declare that the fol- 'lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
' hook.
My snap-hook is made of one piece of wire bent in the center so as to form the ring a, the ends crossing each other'and bent out ward in opposite directions toward the sides of the ring. The cords are then bent inward toward each other, forming the hooks b b, which thus standina direction at right angles with that ofthe ring a. These hooks, at first, are
hook bears against the side of the other.
The snap-hook thus constructed is readily applied wherever it may be desired to use the i same,- and it is very strong, as, from its peculiar formation, any undue strain on the same will only have a tendency to stretch the ring, not break it. t
It may be made of any size and of any-sized wire desired, and used wherever a snap-hook is desirable.
.Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The within described snap-hook, made of one piece of wire bent in the center forming the ring a, and the ends crossed forming the hooks or jaws b b, when said jaws are bent outward to form the opening o' between them, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of June, 1872.
WILLIAM MCGREGOR.
