Description

UNITED STATES PATENT GFFIcE. y
JOHN W. BLACKSTONE, OF DARLINGTON, WISCONSIN.
IMPRovEMENT IN BAG-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,526, dated July 2, 1872.
To all whomat may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. BLACKSTONE, of Darlington, in the county of La Fayette and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bag-Ties; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference beinghad to the annexed drawing making a part of this The device constituting my invention I construct of elasticyvire, of which I take a piece of several inches in length, and -at a short distance from one end bend a spiral coil, A, producing as many circles as may be desired.
Y The upper circle I terminate by bending over the wire and passing it down through the coil. Below the coil I again bend the wire in such a manner as to produce two parallel sections, a al, the latter being double the length of the former. The part a1 I use as a pin to fasten the device to the bag, and for such purpose sharpen the end of the wire. The other end of the wire I bend as shown in the drawing, and produce an eye, e, to receive and hold the pin. Y
In using this device, I attach one end of the cord d to connecting bend between the sections a al, and fasten the pin to the bag 5 I then wind the cord around the neck, and finally, by forcing it between the circles of the coil, encircle the part a2 of the wire. By this means the bag is tied easily, and as tightly and securely as may be desired.
To prevent the cord from slipping a knot may be made on it close to the coil after being fastened.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bag-fastening device herein described, consisting of the wire bent as shown to form the hook e, coil H, post a2, parallel section and pin a a1, combined with cord d, and operating substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN WILFRED BLACKSTONE.
