To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEROY L. RICHARD. a. citizen of the United States, residing at Coalinga, in the county of Fresno and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Auxiliary Tables, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to tables, more especially to those used in ice-cream and refreshment parlors.

The object of the invention is to provide for the comfort and convenience of children i in partaking of refreshments, particularly such as are served in glasses, as, for example, ice cream soda and the like.

To this end my invention consists in an auxiliary or supplementary table attached to and adapted to be folded under and to be withdrawn from the main table, said auxiliary table in the act of withdrawal being depressed to and held at a lower level suitable for the children, so that high chairs are dispensed with and the children need not be set apart but maysit in company with their elders.

Referring to the accompanying drawings,

Figure 1 is a top plan view of the auxiliary table with its connections, in folded position, as it lies under the main table, the latter being omitted.

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing it under and attached t0 the main table.

Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same, showing it in its extended and depressed position, the main table being omitted.

In Fig. 2, 1 is the slab or top of the main table.

2, is the auxiliary or supplementary table.

In practice it will be relatively small but of a size to conveniently hold a dish or other vessel, such as a glass in which refreshments are served.

To the rim of the small table 2 is secured a bracket 3, with an arm 4:, to which is pivoted at 5 an inner pair of links 6, and at 7 an outer pair of links 8.

9 is a winged bracket plate adapted to be secured to and under the main table 1.

To the wings of this plate at 10, the other ends of the inner links 6 are pivoted, and to said wings at 11, the outer pair of links 8 are pivoted. To the plate 9, at 12, is secured one end of a spring 13, the other end of which is secured at v14 to a cross bar 15 of the outer pair of links 8.

The mounting of the auxiliary table enables it to be folded compactly under the maln table, as shown in Figs. l and 2, the pairs of links snugly nesting and pressing close up under the main table, and the small table pressing close up under the links. The auxlliary table may be unfolded from under the main table and projected or extended from its side, being at the same time depressed to a lower level, as shown in Fig. 3.

there is fitted under it a sliding latch 16, with a handle 17, and controlled by a spring 18. The free end of this latch is adapted to engage a keeper notch 19 in the extremity of one of the outer links, 8, as shown in Fig. 3.

By grasping the handle 17 of the latch 16, when the auxiliary table is folded under the main table as shown in Fig. 2, and pulling on it, the latch is drawn back and bv this pull the auxiliary table is drawn outwardly to the extended depressed position of Fig. 3; and then upon releasing the latch, the latter will spring into its engagement with the keeper notch 19, and the parts will be locked in position. To fold the auxiliary table again, the latch is first withdrawn, and then by pressing on the table, it will move back and up under the main table.

In order to hold with greater security the refreshment glass upon the small auxiliary table, there is pivoted at 2O to the arm of the bracket 3, the spring arm bracket 21, which will readily admit and hold the glass stem.

By carrying and suspending the auxiliary table by the double pairs of links 6 and 8, and so proportioning them with regard to their lengths and to their distances between their relative and respective pivotal points 0n both tables, the auxiliary table is always and positively held horizontal and in no danger 0f tipping even though the latch should be accidentally disengaged. This arrangement is one in which the distance 5-7 is equal to the distance lO-ll and the distance 5-10 is equal to the distance 7-11 as shown in F ig. 3.

I claim:

1. In combination vwith a main table, an auxiliary table; a bracket member secured to the rim of theJ auxiliary table at its rear portion; a pair of links pivoted on opposite sides ofthe rear portion of--the bracket ymem-ber and thence diverging forwardly; a. second bracket member secured under the main table near its rim ;pivotal connections on opposite sides: of the inner portion of the. second bracket member with the forward ends yof. the links; a second pair 'of links pivoted'fon opposite sides ofthe forward portion of the first bracket member and thence ydiverging forward-lv between the yfirst pair of links;

5. In combination with a main table; an auxiliary table; a `double pair of pivoted, spring controlled. links, connecting lthe two tables and positioned for folding one pair within the other7 said links adapting, the auxiliary table for folding under the kmain table to lie parallel with* and adjacent to the under surface-ofsaid main :table and for beingl extendedftherefrom to a horizontal plane below its folded position; and a spring controlled latch slidably mounted under' the auxiliary table and adapted to engage a keeper notch in. one of the links, to lock said table in its extended depressed position.
