WALTER A. DEVEY, OF AMERICAN FORK, UTAH.
TONGUE-AND-SLOT LOCK.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented NOV. 12, 1918.
Application led February 10, 1913. Serial No. 747,534.
T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, WALTER AVERY DnvrY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of American Fork, in the county of Utah, State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tongue-and-Slot Locks, of which the following is a specification.
The object ci my invention is to provide a simple, easj7 and ethcient inter-lock, for locking the ends of centrifugal or other circular screens.
Referring to the drawings forming a part thcre'ot- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the screen.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of one end portion of the strip from which the screen is termed.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of the opposite end portion of the strip from which the screen is formed.
Fig. 4 is a section taken upon the line 4 4: of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a section taken along the line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
The portion of the screen intermediate the slot c and the adjacent junction edge of the screen form retaining straps for the tongues A and B. integral with the screen. Through thn interlocking engagement of the tongues with the slots c and the retaining straps, the screen is joined against lateral separation at the junction edges, but at the same time, joined so as to permit circumferential play or movement of the tongues relative to the strap members.
I claim:
l. A screen of the character described formed from a strip of sheet material having its edge portions overlapping, one edge portion being provided with longitudinally extending slots, and the other end portion being provided with slits forming tongues, certain of said tongues extending along one :tace of the slotted edge portion of said strip, and the remaining tongues extending along the other face of the slotted edge portion and then passing through the slots Jformed therein to the opposite side and extending between said first mentioned tongues.
2. A cylindrical screen of the character described formed from a strip of material having one edge portion provided with slits forming tongues and lips, the opposite edge portion of said strip being provided with slots. the edge portions of said 'strip being positioned in overlapped relation with said lips extending along the outer face of said cylindrical screen and said tongues extending along the inner face of said screen and being then passed through said slots and extending along the outer face of said screen between said lips.
3. A joint for the purpose described comprising a strip section provided with openings extending longitudinally of its edge, and a second strip section provided with slits leading from its edge to form lips and tongues. the edge portions of said strip sections being positioned in overlapping relation with said lips extending along one side of the second strip section and said tongues extending along the opposite side of the second strip section and being then passed through the openings formed therein and extending between said lips.
4f. In a lock-joint of the character ydescribed a pair of 'strip sections positioned in overlapping relation, one of said strip sections being provided with openings and the other of said strip sections being provided with tongues and lips. said lips extending along one face of said first-mentioned strip section and said tongues extending along the opposite face of said first-mentioned strip section and being passed through the openings formed therein and then bent to lie flat upon the iirstanentioned strip section between said lips with said lips and tongues extending in the same direction.
