Application filed March 8, 1911. Serial 1%. H3351.
To ail evhom it may camera;
Be it known that l, Roinurr l-l. BERK-' s'rnsssnn, citizen of the United States, residing at York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certa n new and useful Improvements in Molstenors for Cigar-Boxes, of which the 01- of a cigar lowing isa specification. My present invention pertains to cigar boxes and the like such as are equipped with moistening appurtenances; and it consists in the peculiar construction, novel combination and adaptation of parts as hereinafter described and definitely pointed out in my appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings which are I hereby made a part here0i- 1 is an elevation showing a portion box equipped with my novel moistener, the latter being shown with its closure cap in position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the said closure cap removed.
. Fig.
' Figure 1, preferably the back Wall, of the box is lit) provided with a transverse opening 2, and the outer portion of the wall of the opening is flared, as indicated by 3 for an important purpose hereinafter set forth,
snugly arranged in the inner portion of the opening 2 is the box 4 of the moistener. The said box 4 is preferably of tin, for the sake of cheapness and lightness, and its inner wall 5 is opposed to the interior oi the box "and is foraminous, as indicated by in order to permit the dissemination of moisture from the interior of the moistener box to the contents of the cigar box. The moistener box t is also provided with a flange I, and this latter is attached by brads or other suitable means to the inner side of the-wall l of the cigar box so that the Incistenor constitutes a permanent part thereof. Rel'novably arranged in the box l is a .wafer 8, of sponge or other appropriate ab sorbent material, and removably arranged on the outer portion of said box t is a removable, flanged and. tightditting closure cap 9. i
In practice theiabsorbent water 8 is dipped in water, an 4, after which the cap 9 is placed in position as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. With this done, the interior of the cigar box will be adequately supplied with moisture through the foraniinations of box 4, with the result that undue drying of the cigars in the box will be precluded. i
then placed in the box It is important to the end stated that the absorbent wafer 8 be moistened at it'requent intervals, and it is for this reason that both the wafer 8 and the closure cap .9 are made readily removable. For the same reason the outer portion Set the wall or" aperture 2 is flared since by reason of the flare a person. can readily grasp and remove the closure cap 9 and as readily replace the same.
It will be noted from the foregoing that my novel moistener is exceedingly'cheap;
also, that it may be made a permanent part of a cigar box without appreciably increasing the cost of the same, and from this it follows that it is "feasible to discard cigar boxes equipped with my improvement in the same manner as ordinary cigar boxes.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A box for cigars or the like having a transverse opening in one of its walls, said transverse opening being tapered and iiicreasing in diameter outwardly; a moistener box fitting snugly within the inner reduced end of said opening, said moistener box hay ing its inner side foraminous and its outer side open, the open outer side being arranged Within the enlarged said opening and spaced from the wall thereof to provide a surrounding space, said inner side having a radially extending flange disposed upon the inner side of the wall and adapted to span said opening;
means tov attach the flange to the wall;
a wafer or absorbentniaterial arranged outer end at Q memes Within the mpistener box and adapted to be In testimony whereof I 1n g1mt1:n
removed therefrom; and an m'lperforate in presence of two witnesses. flanged cover removably arranged upon the ROBERT H. BERKE-TRESSEB. outer open side of the moistener box with YVitnessee: 5 its flange disposed Within the Surrounding L. E. Hem,
space in convenient reach of the fingers. W. O. SAYLOR.
