Description

W. B. BARKER.
LABEL FOR PIECE GOODS.
MPLICATION FILED 015022.191].
1,281,895. I Patented Oct. 15, 1918* attozmuga WILLIAM B. BARKER, OF HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA.
,i WLABEL FOR PIECE GOODS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1 5, 1918.
Application filed December 22,1917. Serial No. 208,476.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. BARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Huntsville, in the county of Madison and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Labels for Piece Goods, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in labels for piece goods in mercantile establishments, etc., and consists in the provision of a simple and efficient device comprising in combination with an adjustable board, labels scored along parallel lines different distances apart and along I which lines the label is adapted to be folded to adapt the same to boards of diflerent thicknesses upon which cloth is mounted and presenting a bold, plain surface upon which may be written or printed data pertaining to the goods.
The invention consists further in the provision of a label for piece goods scored along lines upon which the label is adapted to be folded, to adapt the same to different thicknesses of boards, and in the provision of curved lines spaced apart at intervals and along which the labels may be cut adapting the same to the Width of the board upon which the label is used.
My invention is illustrated in the ac companying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of my invention to a piece of goods.
Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing one of the labels with scored lines before being folded.
. Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view of one of the blanks folded along parallel scored lines, and
Figs. 4 to 8 are detailed perspectives showing the label folded along different scored lines.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letters:
A designates a board upon which piece goods is mounted, as is common in mercantile establishments, and upon the end of which board it is desired to apply the label. The label is designated by letter A and is of paper, card-board, or other suitable material of square outline and is provided with parallel scored lines B and C, which are spaced apart one quarter of an inch, and upon which lines the label is to be folded to adapt the latter to engage over a board of one quarter inch thickness. The label also has scored lines, designated by letter D which, when the label is bent along said line D and along the line B, will adapt the label for engagement over the end of a board which is three fourths of an inch wide. If the label is folded upon the lines D and C, it will be adapted to fit over the end of a board one half inch wide.
Other scored lines, designated respectively by letters E, F and G, are formed upon the label at right angles to the scored lines B, C and D. When the label is folded upon the lines E and F, it will be adapted to fit over-the end of a board three eighths of an inch thick, and when bent along the line G and F will adapt the label for engagement with a board five eighths of an inch thick, and when folded along the scored lines E and G, label will be adapted to fit over the ends of a board one inch thick.
By this manner of scoring and folding the label upon the lines as shown and described, the label will be adapted to engage six different thicknesses of boards.
By cutting the labels along the curved lines they may be adapted to the diflerent widths of boards.
When the label is applied to the board it will give a clear, bold surface, upon which any writing or printing may be placed and will be held in place by the goods without the necessity of tacks or other fastening means.
What I claim to be new is:
1. A label for piece goods having parallel scored lines at different distances apart and upon which the label is adapted to be folded to fit over boards of different thicknesses.
2. A label for piece goods having parallel scored lines spaced apart from one another, and intersecting each other at right angles,
and along Which lines the label is adapted which the label may be cut to conform to the 10 to be folded to fit over different thicknesses Width of the board. 9
of boards. In testimony whereof I hereunto affiX my 3. A label for piece goods having parallel signature in presence of two Witnesses.
scored lines spaced apart from one another, l v
and intersecting each other at right angles, WM. B. BARKER. and along which lines the label is adapted Witnesses: M
