APPLICATION FILED 'AUGJL Isle'.
Patented Oct. 8, 1918` E STATES PATENT oFrIcE. n
LEANDER E. wEsTBRooK, or SANFORD, coLoaADo.
BREAD AND CAKE RECEPTACLE.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, LEANDER E. WEST- BRooK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sanford, in the county of Conejos, State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Bread and Cake Receptacle; and I do hereby declare the following to'be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which .it appertains to make and use the same. y
This invention relates to an improved receptacle or box, for the reception of bread, cake and the like, andlanobject of the invention is to provide means consisting of a series of shelves, some spaced at regular intervals, others at irregular intervals, whereby bread, cake and pies, which are of different thicknesses, may be supported upon the shelves.
A further object of the invention is to provide a plurality of shelves which may be withdrawn from between t e end parts of some` of the shelves, and one placed -in the bottom of the box, and another near the top, thereby enlarging the spaces between some of the shelves.
A further object of the invention is to provide a plurality of shelves which may be entirely removed, so that the box or receptacle may be employed mainly for receivin loaves of bread.
n practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter setI forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of', the improved combined bread, cake and pie -rece tacle or bX.
ig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig: 1.
F ig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3 ,of
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of .one
of the single shelves.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of two shelves, the ends of which are integrally connected by end pieces.
Referring more especially to the drawings 1 designates a receptacle or box, which ma be any suitable shape or conguration an constructed of any suitable material,
Specification of Letters Patent.
and is provided with a suitable flanged cover 2, which is hinged to the box or receptacle by the pins 3. The forward flange of the c'over. has a hook 4 connected thereto by means of the pivot pin 5. The hook 4 engages a staple 6, for holding the cover closed. Secured in any suitable manner to the upper face of the cover is a plate 7, which pivotally carries a suitable handle 8, by which the cover may be opened, or by which the box or receptacle may be carried from one place to another. The vfront piece 9 of the box or receptacle is connected to the bottom of the box by means of a suitable hinge 10, whereby the front piece may be thrown downwardly. Removably arranged in the box or receptacle is a plurality of series of shelves 11. The
shelves 11 of each series have their opposite ends integrally connected by the end pieces 12, which extend upwardly and downwardly, thereby affording flanges 13. The flanges '13 of the end pieces 12 of each series may,
rAs will be noted the flanges 15 of each of the shelves 14 engage between the flanges 13 of the ad'acent end pieces 12 of the series of shelves, y means of the articular construction of the I.'shaped anges 15, the space-between each shelf 14 and an adjacent shelf 11 above the shelf 14 is greater than the spaces between the adjacent shelves 11. By inverting a shelf 14, the space between it and a shelf 11 below may be increased. Moreover one of the shelves 14, may if so desired, be removed, inverted, and then placed adjacent the bottom of the receptacle or box, thereby increasing the space between two adjacent shelves 11 substantially twice a space between any other two shelves. If desired the other shelf 14 may be removed from between the flanges 13 and inserted in the box or receptacle so asl to rest upon the top edges of the flanges 13 of the up ermost series of shelves 11, thereby provi ing a second space, that is substantially twice the space between any two shelves 11. When a shelf 14 is arranged adjacent the bottom, the space between 1t and the bottom of the receptacle or box may receive paper napkins or the like, or knives or forks and the like.
Patented Oct. 8, 1918.-
Application filed August 17, 1916. Serial No. 115,490. l
By the foregoing construction the receptacle .or box may be utilized either as a bread, cake or 1e receptacle, or as a lunch pail or box.
he invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is In divisional means for a bread receptacle,
Ethe combination with a casing, of a plurality of partitions consistingl of double shelves,
L 'end pieces integrally connecting said double shelves and having upwardly and downwardly vextending anges, whereby said double shelved'partitions may be superimposed, asecondplurality of' partitions each consisting of a single shelf, the opposite ends of whichfhaving L-shaped flanges, said L- shaped flanges at both ends of the single shelf eXtendin shelf, and having their horizontal portions from the same face of the meente tween the doub e shelved partitions, so that the spaces either 'above or below the single shelf partitions may be increased or de-y creased; I
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
