IMPROVEMENT IN CAMP-KITS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,766, dated May 23, 1876; application filed April 4, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARY A. STEPHEN, of Minneapolis, in the State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Lunch-Box; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of the lunchbox packed for travel. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the box and contents when the doors are opened.

My invention has for its object to produce a lunch or provision box suitable to be carried on long journeys by rail or for picnics, &c.; and it consists in a box having certain openin gs and subdivisions for containing food and utensils, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out. i

In the said drawings, A is a box having a partition, A, through its center, andhaving' the swinging doorB and the lifting door D on one side of the partition, and a sliding door, 0, on the other side. In each of the doors B O is an oblong opening, E, covered with fine wirenetting, and on the back of the box, opposite these openings E, are two others of alike character, and covered with like wire-netting.

These openings give a free circulation of air throughout the box. a

In the bottom of one compartment (the left- Z hand one) is a device, 7, for use with pocket cook-stove, to warm up food. Above this, sliding in saw-kerfs, is a sheet-metal shelf, 1', on which rest the various boxes 3 5 6, coffeepot 4, and castersl. In the right-hand compartment there are two ribs or projecting pieces, e, in which are saW-kerfs m, at various heights, and all the receptacles for containing food in this compartment have flanges y y, to slide into these saw-kerfs and hold them steady.

Pies are notoriously difticult to transport, for they are either liable to become mashed or the lower crust becomes sour for want'of ventilation. I obviate this by an improved plate or pan, as seen at 8 and 9, havingits bottom and sides made of perforated sheet metal, and provided with a flanged solid portion to enter the saw-kerfs w. This construction of plate or receptacle gives me a good support for the pie, and at the same time allows a free circulation of air all around the pie, so asto keep it from becoming musty or sour.

By throwing back the door B, beneath the door D, for a support, you can obtain a good extension-table from which to eat. The door Dhas on it a bead, s, which laps over the upper edge of the door B when they are both closed, and the hook a and eye a secure them both.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is A l. A lunch-box, A, provided with the partition A, swinging doors B D, sliding door 0, and air-openings E E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

'3. The-ventilating lunch-box, having partition A, warmin g device 7, coffee-pot 4, shelves 8, receptacles 9 10 11 12, and boxes 3 5 6, all arranged as described.
