WEAPON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8, 1918.
Application filed November 15, 1917. Serial No. 202,140.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONI Suroznwsnr, a citizen of Russia, resident of Webster, county of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Weapons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in weapons and particularly to the types in which a sword and pistol are combined.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a weapon of the kind indicated which may be used with entire facility, either as a sword or as a pistol.
A further object is to provide means combined with the sword by which a pistol may be quickly and firmly attached, so as to be held in a rigid and secure manner.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure and in which Figure 1 is a side elevational View of a weapon, made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmental top plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a fragmental sectional view of the same, the pistol being removed.
In the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates the sword blade, aflixed in a handle'll and provided with a guard 12 of unusual con struction, the guard being widened at the front 14, and provided with an extending guard 15. The pistol 18, here shown to be of a self acting variety, has a barrel 19, extended alongside the sword blade 10, the main part 20 of the pistol having a trigger 21 rearward of the handle 22.
Formed in the widened portion 14 of the guard is a substantially rectangular opening 24, having corner recesses 25, receptive of lugs 27 formed with the pistol body 20, so as to hold the pistol firmly within the guard upon its insertion therein, and in order to hold the pistol in the recess a flat spring 30, secured by the screw 31 to the sword handle 11, has a reentrantly turned loop portion 32, adapted to engage with the rear side of the pistol handle 22, pressing it against the inner surface of the guard 14, and holding the pistol extended through the opening 24.
In operation,if the pistol be removed entirely, the sword can be used in the ordinary manner, while if it is desired to use the pistol, it can be inserted in the opening 24, so that the projecting lugs 27, enter the recesses 25, whereupon the free end 32 of the spring holds the pistol so that it can be operated in a convenient manner.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device as described, in combination a handle, a sword blade secured to said handle, a guard secured to said handle, the guard being wider than the sword blade, said guard projecting downwardly from said blade to provide a front wall, the front wall of said guard being formed with an opening having corner recesses, a pistol body provided with corner lugs adapted to project into said corner recesses as said body projects into said opening, a handle upon said pistol bearing against the rear side of the front wall of said guard to hold said lugs against displacement, the barrel of said pistol projecting alongside of the sword blade, and a flat spring having a lug at one end secured to the sword handle, a portion extending downwardly from said handle of the sword and a loop portion provided with an arm bearing in fiat contact with the rear edge of the handle of the pistol to hold the latter against displacement.
2. In a device as described, in combination, a sword blade, a handle secured upon said sword blade, a guard secured upon the sword handle so as to form a loop therebeyond, the front wall of said guard gradually increasing in width from its lower toward its upper end, and at its extreme upper end being again reduced at a point beyond the opposite side of the sword handle with respect to which the main guard extends, and a pistol secured with its barrel alongside the sword blade and with its handle held in engagement with the front wall of' said main signature.
ANTONI SUROZEWSKI.
