IMPROVEMENT IN TOY-GUNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,078, dated June 18, 1872.
Specification describin ganew and Improved Toy-Gun, invented by GEORGE STAoKHoUsE, of Mount Washington, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania.
Figure l is a sectional side view of iny iinproved toy-gun. Fig. 2 is a horizontal'section of the saine on the line c c, Fig. l..
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
This invention relates to a new toy-gun in which the trigger is connected with a crankshaft, which carries a swinging target in such manner that the target is brought. to view whenever the trigger is drawn back, but withdrawn when the trigger is let go. The child will therefore always see a target to practice onwithout any chance of hitting and destroying it.
A in the drawing represents the stoel; Of the firearm. B is the springtrigger and dart-propeller of the saine. Gis the barrel through which the dart or missile is shot. To the end of an extension, D, of the barrel is secured an upright plate, E, in front of the barrel, against which plate the dart is invariably thrown by the spring-power of the trigger.
The frequent loss of the dart, and injury by the same of other things, is thus avoided. A rod,'a7 extends forward from the trigger under the extension D, and connects with a crank, b, of a rock-shaft, d, which hangs back of the plate E. To an arm, e, of the shaft d is secured a picture or device, f, which is, through a slot ofthe plate E, brought forward to View whenever the trigger is drawn back preparatory to firing; but the said picture is drawn behind the plate again by the forward motion of the trigger and before the dart can strike it.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat- .ent-
l. The toy-gun, provided with the plate E forward of the barrel, as set forth.
2. The vibrating picture or device f connected with the rock-shaft d, rod a, and trigger B, and arranged to pass through a slot of the plate E, as set forth.
GEORGE STAGKHOUSE.
