Description

J. A. FINLEY.
TIE S LIP. APPLICATION FILED D5028. 1917.

W/e a. -W wa/ JAMES A. FINLEY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TIE-SLIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Uct. I, HMS.
Application filed December 28, 1917. Serial No. 209,235.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. FINLEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tie-Slips, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in tie slips and has for its object the provision of a construction adapted to facilitate the slipping or sliding of a tie through an ordinary turndown or double collar or the like.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which, I
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a necktie in position of use on a collar and equipped with a slip, embodying the invention, and
Fig. 2, a horizontal section of the same.
. The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises abridging member 3 formed of a metallic strip or plate having its ends I bent slightly with respect thereto and adapted to contact with the inner side 5 of an ordinary turnover or double collar 6 on opposite sides of a collar button 6 therein. Slots 7 are provided in the bent-over ends 4 to aline with each other and distanced from the extreme edges of the ends 4 sufliciently to cause a tie 8 passing therethrough to pass substantially clear of or contact but lightly with the head of the collar button 6'.
In use the slip is placed over the band or narrow portion of the tie by slipping or sliding the tie through the slots 7 and the slip is then placed in the collar on opposite sides of the button hole therein. The collar is attached in the usual manner so that the button 6 falls between the ends of the slip which thus holds the tie band from material contact with the collar button. When the tie is drawn or slipped in either direction, the slip travels therewith until the corresponding end 4: contacts with the collar button, whereupon the tie is free to slide easily therethrough.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A tie slip comprising a metallic plate having its opposite ends bent with relation thereto to rest against a collar and hold the body of said plate outwardly from the collar button, there being tie guide slots in said bent ends distanced from the extreme ends thereof, substantially as described.
2. A tie clip comprising a metallic plate having its opposite ends bent inwardly to rest against a collar and hold the body of said plate outwardly beyond the collar button, there being tie guide slots in said bent ends distanced from the extreme ends thereof and adjacent the ends of the body of said plate, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES A. FINLEY.
