To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE J. GiLMonn, a citizen of the United States of America, and. a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Film Clasps, of which the following 18 a specification.
This invention relates to clasps for holding the free end of a motion pictures film or web in place upon a roll of the same, and which is also adapted to temporarily couple the ends of a broken film when so desired. And the present improvement has for its object:
To provide a structural formatlon of a clasp or holder adapted to afford a substantial holding of the end or ends of a picture film in proper place or relation. and which is capable of ready and convenient attachment and removal as required, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1, is a perspective view of the clasp as applied to a roll of picture film.
Fig. 2, is a transverse sectlon.
Fig. 3, is a plan view of the clasp detached.

As represented in the drawing, the clasp is formed of a plate of resilient metal or like material bent upon itself to provide a base plate 1 and a clamping plate 2 connected together by a return bend 3 at one end, said return bend having preferably a curved and expanded form as shown.
In the preferred construction of the clasp the base plate 1 will be of a width somewhat greater than the width of the roll of film to which it is to be applied and will be formed. with a curved lip 4t at its free end. to aid. in preventing accidental lateral detachment of the clasp after application. In such preferred construction the clamping or holding plate 2 will be of a short width and formed with a segmental free edge adapted to afford easy lateral entrance of the film beneath the same.
The material part of this improvement involves the formation of one or more ridges or humps 5 in the base plate 1 adjacent to indicate like the return bend portion 3 aforesaid, and adapted to engage the sprocket perforations 6 of a. moving picture film to maintain the clasp in place against a tendency to lateral displacement in actual use.
In the preferred construction shown. more particularly in Fig. 2, the clamping plate 2 will be formed with a series of recesses or hollow humps 7 aligned with and adapted to coact with the ridges or humps 5 in at taining a more effective holding action of the parts and it is within the scope of this invention to reverse the arrangement of the humps 5 and 7 just described and form the ridges or humps 5 in the clamping plate 2 and the recesses or hollow humps 7 in the base plate 1, where the circumstances may indicate such formation of parts.
In the present clasp. the holding, or clamping plate 2 affords a convenient and ready means for holding a card or indicator in place upon a roll of film.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by letters Patent. is
1. In clasp of the type described. a base plate and a holding plate arranged in approximately parallel relation and connected together by a return bend portion. one of said plates having a holding hump located in close proximity to said return bend. portion and adapted to engage the sprocket perforation of a picture film next adjacent to the bend of the clasp to prevent movement of the hump over the picture portion of the film.
2. In a clasp of the type described, a base plate and a holding plate arranged in approximately parallel relation and connected together by a return bend portion. one of said plates having a holding hump located in close proximity to said return bend portion and the other of said plates having an aligned hollow hump. said humps being adapted to engage the sprocket perforations of a picture film next adjacent to the bend. of the clasp to prevent movement of the hump over the picture portion of the film.
