Description

e. s. KNAPP. CHALK THOUGH FOR BLAC'KBOARDS.
- Patented Sept. 24, 1918.
ado/p6 J pnrrnn s reams Paren s ensues.
GEORGE S. KNAPP, OF LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO KNAPP BROTHERS MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE S. KNAPP, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at La Grange, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois,'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chalk-Troughs for Blackboards, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in chalk troughs, particularly for use in connection with blackboards and the like, and the object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed and readily installed device of this character and one which is neat and attractive in appearance, sanitary in construction and having a removable false bottom in the trough for normally holding the crayon and erasers and to receive the crayon and other dust and which false bottom may be readily removed for cleaning and other purposes.
Other objects of this invention include improvements in details of construction and arrangement whereby a very simple and attractive construction of this type is provided.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear my invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and then sought to be defined in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof and which shows, merely for the purpose of illustrative disclosure, a preferred embodiment of my invention, it being expressly understood however that various changes may be made in practice within the scope of the claims without digressing from my inventive idea.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a device constructed according to my invention installed in position for use.
Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse cross section through the same taken substantially on line 22 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of one end of the same, part of the false bottom being removed to show details of construction.
Referring now to the drawings, the numeral l designates the blackboard or other surface to which the device is adapted to be attached. The device itself comprises the body part 2, which is preferably formed of CHALK-TROUGH FOB BLACKBOARDS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 24, 191 8. Application filed July 20, 1918. Serial No. 245,820.
an elongated integral piece of sheet metal bent or shaped to provide a trough part which includes an outwardly curved or convex rear wall 3, a fiat bottom part 4, an out wardly inclined front wall 5, bent over, as at 6, and then downwardly, as at 7 to form the outer front wall having the downwardly -inclined portion 8 terminating in the substantiallystraight edge part 9, the parts 8 and 9 forming a support for the trough provided by the parts 3, 4 and 5, and the edge bearing against the wall or surface, as indicated. V
The ends of this elongated member 2 are closed by the end pieces 10 which are shaped, as shown, and are formed with the flange 11 corresponding substantially in shape to the cross section of the member 2, the ends of which rest against the said flange, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. Each member 10 is also provided with the projection 12 to receive the securing means 13 by which the member 2 is connected thereto.
Removably mounted in the trough provided in the top part of member 2 is the false bottom member 14, which is crimped, as shown, to provide a plurality of corrugations or ridge 15 and having its edges resting against the front and rear parts 3 and 5 of the member 2, as shown. This member 14 is frictionally held in position and is readily removable therefrom for cleaning and other purposes and when in trough part and a bracing part therefor,
and a false bottom member transversely crimped to provide a plurality of longitudinally extending ribs and alternate depres sions removably mounted in said trough art.
p 2. A chalk trough of the character described including an elongated body member formed of sheet metal to provide a trough part and-a bracing part therefor,
and a false bottom member rcmovably mounted in said trough part, said. false bot tom member being crimped to provide a plurality of corrugations.
3. A chalk trough of the character described including in combination an elongated body member formed of an integral piece of sheet metal and shaped to provide a trough part having a convexed rear Wall and an outwardly inclined front wall and also having a brace part extending" thereunder to a point in the same vertical plane with the rear wall of the trough part end members for said body member, each having a flange shaped to correspond to the cross sectional shape of the body member to receive the end edges thereof, and a removable false bottom positioned in said trough part.
4:. A chalk trough of the character demembers for said body member, each having a flange shaped to correspond to the cross sectional shape of the body member to receive the end edges thereof, and a removable false bottom positioned in said trough part said removable false bottom being crimped to provide a plurality of corrugations.
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name. 1
GEORGE S. KNAPP.
