'T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WALTER E. Mownnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arnold, in the county of Custer and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Photographic-Plate Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The purpose of this inventionis the provision of a holder for photographic cameras which is adapted to receive plates of difi'erent sizes and which operates effectively with the different sized plates so as to secure them in the required position against possible displacement.
The invention primarily aims to provide means in the nature of an attachment which may be readily adapted to plate holders in use or on the market whereby their range of usefulness is materially increased.
The invention provides adjustable plate holding means which may be cheaply manu factured and which are light and compact so as to be readily adapted to plate holders of ordinary structure. I I
The drawing illustrates a preferred eml; odiment of the invention however, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions, various changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of theinvention as claimed hereinafter.

The plate holder comprises a frame 1, slides 2, and an intermediate partition 3, these parts bein of well known construction a d a ra gem nt in ca P a 11 1 The plate is' indicated at i, and may be of any size within the capacity of the holder, it
being understood that within certain limits, plates of different sizes are adapted to be used in connection with the holder, the present invention relatii'ig to the means Where-' by such plate is made secure when in position.
The adjustable plate holding means coin prise com iilemental members A and B. Each of these members is preferably formed of sheet metal of proper size. The member A comprises a shank 5 and a head 6. Intercommunicating slots 7 and 8' are formed in the'slot 8 is offset, as indicated at lOto provide a lip which in practice engages over an edge portion of the plate 4 and retains it in the required position. The ,complemental member B of the plate holding attachment comprises a head 12 and a shank 13, the latter being designed to over-' lap the shank 5 of the member A and having its edge portions folded, as indicated at 14: to provide guide-ways which embrace opposite edge portions ofthe shank 5 and thereby retain the parts in proper position. The head 12 is formed with slots 15 and 16 which correspond with the slots 7 and 8 of the member A and have a like arrangement and are designed to receive a fastening 17 which performs the same oflice as the fastening 9. A lip extension 18 is offset from the longitudinal edge portion of the head 12 adjacent the longitudinal slot 16 and is provided at its outer end with 2. depending portion 19 for a purpose similar to the part 11 of the member A. The full and dotted lines in Fig. 1 'indicate two positions of the adjustable plate In the position indicated by the full lines the fastenings 9 and 17 are disposed in the longitudinal slots 8 and 16, but in the dotted line position shown in Fig. 1, the fastenings are disposed in the transverse slots 7 and 15 of the members A and B. It is contemplated to provide holding means for twosizes of plates and to supply different sizes of holding members for every two remaining sizes of plates within the capacity of the holder. This will necessitate difierently positioning the fastenings 9 and 17 hence the partition 3 will have openings at difierent points for such fastenings, but the openings not required for immediate use will be covered by suitable material such as adhesive plaster or other material pasted to the partition and covering the openings therein.
As indicated in Fig. 1, the plate holding means are disposed at one end of the holder, and when the plate a is in position, it is con fined at one end by means of the lip extensions 10 and 18 and the bent portions 11 and 19 of such extensions. When the fastenings 9 and 17 are loosened the members A and B may be readily adjusted tothe next size and when positioned are made secure by retightening the fastenings 9 and 17, such fastenings being loosened and tightened by .means of a suitable tool.
What I claim is: 1. Adjustable plate holding means for a photographic camera plate holder, the same member being provided with intercommumembers having sliding engagement and the heads being provided with right-angularly disposed slots, and fastenings passing through the slots of the heads to secure the members of the partition in the required adjusted position.
3. In combination with a photographic plate holder, complemental members, each of such members having an oflsetplate engagingextension and having-the outer ends of such extension bent to engage the outer edges of the plate, and fastening means for securing the members of the holder in the required adjusted position.
4. An adjustable plate holding means for photographic plate holders, the same comprising complemental members each of such members consisting of a shank and a head, the latter having an edge portion offset to provide a plate engaging extension and such plate engaging extension having its outer end bent, the shanks of the members having silding engagement and the heads of the members being provided with right-angu larly disposed inter communicating slots.
