Description
HENRY ROSAMYER'," Jr.
Improvement in Animal-Power. N0.127,800, Patented lune1|,v182.
UNITED STATES HENRY ROSAMYER, JR., 0F ALLEGHENY CITY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN AN'IMAL POWERS.
Specification forming part of ALetters Patent No. 127,800, dated June 11, 1872.
To whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, HENRY ROSAMYER, Jr., of the city and county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Dog- Power for Churns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in an adjustable and detachable tread-wheel, so arranged that its inclination may be adapted to the weight and size of the dog, and combining therewith a friction-pulley for communieating motion from the tread-wheel to the crank-disk, and from the crank-disk transmitting motion to the walking-beam,to which the churn-flasher is attached, the Whole being constructed and arranged as hereinafter described. A To enable others skilled in the art to mak and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction' and operation.
In the accompanying drawing which forms part Of my speciiication, Figure l is a front elevation Of my improvement in dog-power. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of thesame. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the adjustable and detachable tread-wheel.
A represents the frame of the machine. B represents the tread-wheel, which is pivoted on theupright shaft C, and secured in a horizontal shaft, D, which can be adjusted'through the medium of the lever e and step f. 0n the under side of the tread-Wheel B is placed a friction-pulley, h, which receives its motion from the tread-wheel B. 0n the Outer end of the shaft m is placed a crank-wheel, c', to which is pivoted a pitman, j, the upper end of which is connected to the walking-beam k at a, to the forward end of which, at 1, is attached the churn-dasher. The walking-beam k is so arranged that a greater or less stroke may be imparted to the churn-dasher. y is an adjustable bar usedr for the purpose Of keeping the dog in the desired position upon the. tread-Wheel, his position thereon being deteri mined by his size and weight.
It will be observed that the tread-wheel B is suspended and pivoted upon the upper end of the vertical shaft O through the medium of the center piece a: and suspension-rods o, and is prevented from undue side motion by the shaft C passing through the opening 3 in the center braces y of the Wheel B.
By thus suspending the wheel B, as herein described, a great part of the weight of the wheel B and the Weight of the dog is brought to bear On the friction or crank Wheel t', to which the rod j is attached for operating the walking-beam k, thereby obtaining all the advantages of weight and positive action of the tread-wheel Without the loss of motion.
It will be further Observed that by pivoting the crank-wheel On the end of th vertical shaft G, which can be set at many different angles-through the medium of the shaft D, arm e, and standard f, the inclination of the tread-wheel B can be changed with great ease and facility, thereby adapting it tO the weight of the dog and the powerrequired.
It will also be noticed by the skillful memechanic, that the Walking-beam can be piv n lthe temperature and other conditions of the milk or cream.
The skillful mechanic, from the foregoing description and by reference to the accompanying drawing, will readily comprehend the construction and arrangement Of the several parts and the relation they bear to each other, and will also readily comprehend the operation of the same with relation to the churndasher withoutW further description.
WVhat I claim as of my invention is- The combination and arrangement of the tread-wheel B, pivoted shaft D, lever e, strip f, friction-wheel h, crank-wheel z', pitmanj, adjustable Walking-beam la, and adjustable crossbar y, constructed, arranged, and Operating substantially'as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
