Description

W. MA-GEE. Churn.
No. 203,170. Patented April 30, 1878.
Mal-trans, FHoTduTummPuEh, wA nmercmn c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIon.
WILLIAM MAGEE, OF FOWLERS, WEST VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO DAVID C. POGUE, OF PATTERSONS MILLS, PA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 203,170,dated April 30, 1878; application filed February 16, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MAGEE, of Fowlers, in the county of Brooke, and in the State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vibratory Ohurns; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description- 'and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my churn. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the churn-body. A represents a bed-frame, of any suitable construction, upon which are two central ver' tical standards, B B, having their upper ends connected by a cross-bar, O. A suitable distance below this crossbar, in the standards B B, is journaled a cross-bar, D, from which depend two arms, D D, having a platform, D secured between their lower ends.
E represents the churn-box, made in square tapering form, as shown, and placed upon the swing-platform D between the arms D D where it is held in place by means of a strap,
F, passing through mortises in said arms.
G is the churn-dasher, consisting simply of a perforated board, and secured in the center to the lower end of a bar, H, which is curved substantially in the form shown, and passes upward through an elongated slot, a, in the cover I of the churn. The upper end of the bar or rod H is pivoted in a forked arm, L, projecting from the center of the crossbar O:
Kis arod attached to the lower portion of the swing, and by means of which said swing, with the churn thereon, is operated back and forth. This swinging of the churn causes the dasher to travel through the milk, and the milk thus obtains a double agitation.
The stroke of the dasher may be made long or short, as desired, by changing the pivot of the rod H in the forked arm.L out or in from the cross-bar C, said arm being perforated for that purpose. I
When the churn is not in use the rod K is .raised and fastened in a hook, b, on the crossbar 0.
Having thus fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
v The arrangement of the axis or point of sus pension of the dasher-rod at some distance outside of a vertical plane passing through the center of the swinging churn-body when the latter is in equilibrium, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of January, 1878.
WILLIAM MAGEE.
