Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Prion. g
ANDREW S. REISOR, OF WHITE ROOK, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CRADLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,982, dated March 4, 1879 application filed December 14,1878.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW S. Raison, of White Rock, in the county of Hunt and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cradles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this speciiicat-ion.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a cradle with fan attachment, as will be hereinafter more fully setforth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertaius to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my cradle. Figs. 2 and 3 are two end views of the same.
B represents a cradle provided with journals a a rigidly attached to the ends thereof. The journals a a have their bearings in perforations in the stand A.
On one of the journals a, outside of the stand A, is attached an arm or crank, C, provided with a pitman or connecting rod, D, at its outer end. This pitman may be `connected with a clock mechanism for operating the cradle automatically; or it may be connected with a treadle for operatin g the cradle by footpower.
To one end of the cradle, on the under side, is rigidly secured a counter-balance or weight, E, acting as a pendulum to make the motion steady and uniform, especially when the cradle is operated by clock-work. At the other or head end of the cradle, to the journal a outside of the stand A, is rigidly secured an arm or crank, F, which, by a rod, G, is connected with an arm or crank, H, attached tothe outer end of a shaft, I, passing through and journaled in the upper portion of the stand. To the inner end of this shaft is attached a fan, L, which thus, by the rocking motion of the cradle, obtains a vibrating motion over the head of the cradle, for the purpose of keeping off flies from the child.
I am fully aware that cradles have been operated by clock mechanism, and also that fans have been combined with cradles, and I do not claim such, broadly, as my invention.
My invention is simple in construction, cheap, and durable, and not liable to get out of order.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is
The cradle B, journaled in the frame A, and provided with the weighted pendulum E, in combination with cranks F C H, connectingrods G D, rock-shaft I, and fan L, the whole constructed and arranged to operate in the manner and for the purpose set forth. l
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afx my signature in presence of two witnesses. l
ANDREW S. REISOR.
