TICKET HOLDER.
APPUCATION men an. 10. 1911.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLIFFORD ORVILLE MILLER, on ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, Assreruoa TO WILLIAM JAMES BOHAN, on sat. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
TICKET-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3, 1918.
Application filed October 10, 1917. Serial No. 195,665.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLIFFORD ORvILLn MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Although the present invention is applicable for various uses, it is particularly intended for use of'railway conductors for carrying the slips or tickets used for indicating the stations of the difierent passengers.
The objects of this invention are to provide a simple and efficient ticket holder; to provide a holder of the character indicated which will hold a predetermined number of tickets in a convenient and compact mannor; to provide a holder for a pack of slips or tickets whereby the slips or tickets may be readily removed from any part of the pack; and in general to provide a device having such advantages and novel features as will be described more fully hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating this invention:
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved ticket holder, shown on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; and
Fig. 3 is an end view. 7
As illustrated in these drawings, the holder comprises a body portion 4:, having a bottom plate 5, back or end 6, and sides 7. The sides are cut away as indicated at 8 so that the thumb and fingers may grasp the slips or tickets 9 in the rear of the front branches or posts 10. A retaining plate or clip 11 is pivoted at 12 to the back 6, and is pressed against the tickets by means of a spring 13 which may be arranged in the manner shown -or in any other convenient way. The outer end of the clip 11 is curved as shown at 14, at a point approximately opposite the outer end of the bottom 5, and the bottom is preferably bent upwardly at the outer end so that the tickets will be securely held between the outer end for carrying conductors seat checks or 7 tickets, different colored checks or slips will ordinarily be carried and it is often desirable to remove a check from an intermediate position in the pack. This may be readily done by grasping the sides of the checks above the one desired, and in the rear of the posts 10, and raising the checks and clip 11 so as to free the one desired. This can be readily removed.
Having thus described my invention, which, however, I do not wish to limit to the exact construction or arrangement set forth, except as specified in the followingclaims, what I claim is:
1. Aticket holder having a body portion comprising a bottom with an upturned forward edge, a back, sides having recesses extending downwardly from the top, a spring clip hinged to the back, said clip being approximately the length of the bottom, the arrangement being such that the tickets will be firmly clamped between the outer end of the spring clip and the forward edge of the bottom.
2. In a check or ticket holder, the combination of a body portion havinga bottom, sides and back, the forward part of the bottom being bent upwardly, a clamping member hinged to the back, a spring tending to urge the free end of the clamping member toward the bottom, the free end of said clamping member being curved upwardly at a point approximately opposite the outer edge of the bottom, whereby the checks or tickets will be clamped between said upwardly curved free end and the forward portion of the bottom.
3. A check or ticket holder comprising a body portion of approximately half the length of the tickets to be held, said body portion being open at one end to receive the tickets, a spring clip pivoted to the back of the body portion, the sides of the body portion being cut away adjacent to theclip, whereby the clip and adjacent tickets may be engaged by the thumb and fingers on opposite sides of the holder.
l. A holder of the character described, comprising a bottom bent upwardly at its forward end, posts extending upwardly from the "forward end, a back extending upwardly at the rear end, a spring clip hinged 1 to said back and projecting forwardly, said clip being approximately the same length as the bottom and being guided between said posts substantially as described.
