Description

WILLIAM TAN N ER & WILLIAM SH I IVIANAUR.
Improvement in Buggy-Tops.
V Patented lune II, I872.
WITN ESSESI INVENTOR5:
MW. #M
UNITED STATES WILLIAM TANNER AND WILLIAM SHIMANAUR, OF FINDLEY, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUGGY-TOPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,715, dated June 11, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM TANNER and WILLIAM SHIMANAUR, of Findley, in the county of Hancock and State of Ohio, have invented elevation, showing the buggy-top inclined.
This invention relates to an improvement in I buggy-tops; and consists of a metallic sheath,
provided with a vertical ornamental guard, connected with the bows of the top by a jointbrace, so as to partially incase and slide upon a flat metallic rail or guide secured to the shifting-rail of the seat; the object being to produce a self-adjusting slide-rest and prop- 7 block for carriage-tops.
In the drawing, A is the metallic sheath, and B the vertical ornamental flange or guard. The sheath A partially incases a flat metallic rail or guide, 0, secured to the shiftin grail D at its front, outside of the bows G, by a nut, and at its rear by a scroll-block, E, having braces FF. A recess, K, in the upper side of the sheath A receives the ends of a curved spring, L, which presses upon the guide 0 and holds the sheath A in any position to which it may be drawn. A joint-brace, I, connects the sheath A with the bows G.
When the buggytop, connected to the sheath A by the joint-brace I, is thrown back, the brace I causes the metallic sheath A to slide back upon the rail or guide 0 until the buggy-top rests upon the sheath A. When the buggy-top is raised the sheath is drawn back to place.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A self-adjusting slide-rest and prop-block for carriage-tops, consisting of the metallic sheath A, provided with the vertical ornamental guard B, connected with the bows G by the joint-brace I, and partially incasin g the rail or guide 0 secured to the shifting-rail D, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony that we claim'the foregoing improvement in buggy-tops, as abovedescribed, we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 6th day of April, 187 2.
