ERNEST enoaen naownn, or PLYMOUTH, ENGLAND.
MEANS FOR THE ATTACHMENT OF BRACELETS TO WATCHES.-
incense.
Application filed March 19, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST GEORGE fBnownn, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 79 Old Town street, Plymouth, in the county of Devon, England, toy manufacturer, have invented certain new and useful Improved Means for the l ittachment of Bracelets to lVatches, of which the :lollowing is a. specification.
The invention relates to the attachment ot a bracelet and particularly an expansible bracelet to a loop rigidly carried by a watch and provides the hereinafter described improred means therefor enabling convenient and quick detachment with the object pri marily of quickly removing thev bracelet and vatch from the wrist without drawing over the hand and similarly putting on to said wrist.
The attachment means according to the invention comprises a rigidly built hook-like fitting to engage the watch loop and a swing ing bar or frame carried by the fitting for the purpose of opening and closing the entrance thereto said frame at its free end having a snap action with the fitting and being arranged for convenient hand operation. ()pposite side hooks are provided on the litting to engage the end bar of the watch loop between the side bars such side hooks being disposed relative to the top piece of the litting so that the latter fills the space bet-worm the hooks and also in greater part fills the space inclosed by the loop. The fitting is raised from a single blank of metal and the swinging frame is made from a single length of wire.
The invention and its application is represented by the accompanying sheet of drawings.
Figure 1 is a front View of a watch, portion of an expansible bracelet, and the improved attachment means connecting the end of said portion to one of the loops.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of Fig. 1.
Fig. is an edge View similar to F 2 but with the attachment means in section.
Fig. 4 is an underside plan of said attachment means separate.
Fig. 5 is the blank of the hoolclike lit-ting.
Fig. 6 is the swinging bar or frame separate.
The hook-like fitting (1. comprises top piece a formed at a? into a. hinging knuckle and turning down and under at its opposite end Specification of Letters Patent.

to the knuckle into a tongue piece a extending substantially parallel with the plane of the top piece for about half the length thereof to stand some distance away therefrom. This tongue piece at its inner end a is shaped upwardly into a snap seating a to be engaged by the free end of a frame 0 which at its other end 0 is hinged to the knuckle a to swing inwardly toward the top piece This inwardly swinging frame is adapted to open and close the opening (Z into the hook-like fitting a which opening provides for the introduction of the boundary loop 6 on the watch into engagement with the attachment means. At that end of the attachment means turned down into the tongue piece a are provided two trans versely opposite side hooks f and g rising rigidly from the tongue piece with their entrances directed toward the knuckle a The hooks f and g are adapted to engage the outer bar e of the loop quite close to the end bars a e of said loop while the top piece is arranged in respect of said hooks to fill in the space therebetween and also the space inclosed by the loop e the adjacent end of the hook-like fitting a being positioned very near the boundary of the watch 12. The outer bar 6 also passes through the space between the top piece a and the tongue piece a without making contact with the adjacent end of the metal connecting these parts, the throats of the hooks f and 9 being inward of said end metal. The knuckle is provided by curling down the metal at the 1.
end of the top piece into a small tube.
The frame 0 is a rectangular one formed of wire and comprising the four bars a c and 6 the bar 0 being divided for its convenient connection up to the knuckle a and the link i by which said knuckle is attached to the bracelet end The top piece a in plan is of less width than that of the frame 0 so that the side bars 0* c of the frame are exposed or project to a small extent as shown in Figs. 1 and L for hand operation to swing said frame into opened and closed positions.
Having now described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An attaching means for the end of a. bracelet to a watch loop consisting of a rigidly constructed fitting comprising a flat body with one extremity bent thereunder and formed with a re-bent snap terminal? which is insertible throughthe watch loop the opposite terminal of the said body being bent under to provide a hinging knuckle, and an inwardly swinging link hinged to said knuckle and operable to have a locking engagement over and with the re-bent snap terminal, the swinging link and the hinging knuckle being also provided with a device for connecting the body to the end of the bracelet.
2. An attaching means for the end of abracelet to a- Watch loop, consisting of a rigidly constructed fitting comprising a body with one extremity bent thereunder and formed Witha re-bent snap at its free end and also with side hooks adjacent to the bend of said extremity, the bent extremity and snap at the free end of said extremity being insertible through the Watch loop, the opposite end of the body being bifurcated and bent under to form a hinging knuckle, an inwardly swinging link hinged to the said knuckle and operable to have a locking engagement over and with the i'e-bent snap, and a connecting link partially projecting into the bifurcated hinging knuckle end oi 1 eve-tee the body and attached to the swinging link tor connecting the body to the bracelet end.
8. An attaching means for the end of abracelet to a Watch loop, consisting of a rigidly constructed fitting comprising a fiat body With one extremity bent thereunder at an angle thereto and terminating in a rebent snap, the said snap and bent extremity of the body being insertible through the Watch loop and the opposite extremity of the body being bent under to form a hinging knuckle and also centrally bifurcated, aswinging link having a hinge connection with the said hinging knuckle and free to move over, and having locking engagement with the re-bent snap, and a connecting device engaging the bifurcated liinging knuckle of the body for attaching the latter to the bracelet end. a
