UNITED stares LOUIS EDMOND VALCOURT, OF PAVJTUCKET, RHODE STERN COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND,
ISLAND.
ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO LOUIS A CORPORATION OF RHODE BRACELET HOOK.
Application filed May 2 1,
This invention relates to an improved construction of bracelet hook for attaching a wrist watch bracelet to the bails of a wrist watch; and has for its object to provide such a hook which is more particularly adapted to be used in connecting a bracelet to a wrist watch having so-called extended wings extending therefrom on which the bail members are mounted to which the hook is .to be attached; and the object of this invention is to form the top jaw member of the device in substantially a single plane to readily enter the bail and also to provide a hook-shaped jaw swingable relative thereto, to close against the same.
A further object of this invention is to mount the tongue plate on a supporting member both of which may be readily slid into the body of the hook in assembling the same.
WVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. a
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view showing a wrist watch and a portion of the bracelet with my improved hooks connecting the bracelet to the bails of the watch which are on the under side or overhanging wings thereof.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the body portion of the device with the extending shank hook-shaped at its end.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the sup porting member.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the tongue closing plate.
Figure 5 is a perspective of the assembled device.
Figure 6 is a sectional elevation on substantially line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the hook.
It is found in the construction of wrist watches desirable to provide extending ornamental portions or wings with the attaching bail for a wrist-engaging strap or bracelet on the under side of the wings and in a position difficult for the attachment of metal bracelets thereto, with the heretofore common form of hook and to facilitate the attachment of the metal bracelet the present construction is provided which will lie close 1926. Serial No. 111,201.
to the under surface of these overhanging wings. This is accomplished in the present invention by forming the top wall of the hook in substantially a single plane and of a size to be readily inserted in the Watch bail on, the under side of these overhanging wings. It is also found desirable to construct this top plate or tongue such that the same may be quickly attached or detached from the body of the bracelet and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of the invention showing one means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished VJith reference to the drawings, 10 designates the body portion of the device which is provided with an extending shank 11 formed into a hook 12 at its end. This body and shank are provided with side walls 13 having inturned flanges 14 forming a portion of the top wall near one end thereof and the body is also provided with an attaching loop or eye 15 which is folded as illustrated in the drawings to providea portion 16 lying substantially in the plane of the top wall of the hook.
A supporting member 17 having an upturned side wall 18 is provided in which a pivot pin 19 is mounted in the openings 20. This pivot pin supports a tongue plate 21 by means of the cars 22 having openings or bearings 23 therein to receive the pin and a tension spring 2% encircles the pin for the purpose hereinafter described.
The supporting member 17 together with the tongue and spring mounted thereon are slid lengthwise of the shank of the body beneath the inturned flanges 14 the supporting member being of a size to snugly fit in this portion of the body. To hold the supporting member and its tongue in this position a detent 25 is raised from the bottom wall of the body sufficiently to engage the edge 26 of the supporting member and prevent it from being moved longitudinally of the hook and from beneath the flanges 14.
The tension spring 24 has one of its ends 27 engaging the under surface of the tongue 21 and the other end 28 engaging the bottom wall of the supporting member 17 by which it tends to swing the tongue plate on its pivot to close the hook end 12 and prevent the same from disengagement with the bail 29 of the wrist watch 80.
A finger piece 31 is raised from the stock at one end of the tongue plate and is provided with a notch 32 to be engaged by the finger nail of the operator in depressing that end of the plate to cause the opposite end of the plate to move outwardly from the end of the hook.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the aws of this device may be separated by manual operation from the top thereof and that the top plate being formed in substanlially a single plane may be readily inserted in thebail beneath the wings of the watch to attach the same thereto.
The foregoin'r description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
Claims:
1. A watch bracelet hook comprising a body portion having one wall extended to form a shank hook-shaped at its end, a tongue plate for closing said hook-shaped end and forming another wall for said body, and means for pivotally mounting said plate intermediate its ends in said body in such.
position that pressure on one end of said plate causes the hook closing e d thereof to move outwardly from said hook-shaped end and permit the insertion of a watch bail therein.
2. A watch bracelet hook comprising a body portion having a bottom wall with an extending shank hook-shaped at its end, a tongue plate for closing said hook-shaped end and forming a top wall for said body, means for pivotally mounting said plate in said body intermediate the ends of said plate, and a linger piece on said plate operable from the top o1 the device for moving the hook-closing end of said plate outwardly away from the hook-shaped end of said shank.
3. A watch bracelet hook comprising a body having side walls with inturned portions and provided with an extending shank hook shaped at its end, a supporting member in said body of a size to be slid beneath said inturned portions and a tongue in) closing said hook shaped end pivotally mounted in said member.
l. A watch bracelet hook con'iprising a body having side walls with inturned portions and provided with an extending shank l'iook-shaped at its end, a supporting mem her in. said body oi a size to be slid beneath said intnrned portion and a tongue for closing said hook shaped end pivotally mounted in said member, a detent raised from the stock of said body and engaging an edge of said member to assist in holding the same in position and a tongue pivotally mounted in said member for closing said hook-shaped shank end. 7
5. A watch bracelet hook comprising a body portion having a shank with a hook shaped end, side walls along said body flange extending inwardly from said side walls, a supporting member having corresponding side walls mounted in said body, a detent for engaging said member to assist in holding it in position a pivot pin supported between the side walls of said member, a tongue plate having ears mounted on said pivot pin and a spring for swinging said plate to close said hook-shaped end.
In tcstin'iony whereof I a'fiiti my signai'in'e.
