Description

PIN
Filed Feb. 15, 1927 Patented Oct. 18, 1927.
UNITED STATES CLIFFORD G. KING, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
PIN.
Application filed February 15, 1927. Serial No. 168,460.
This invention relates to pins, brooches and the like and its object is to improve and simplify the construction thereof in the manner hereinafter setforth.
In the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pin embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof; and
3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
In the particular drawings selected for more fully disclosing-my invention, 10 is a front plate to which the back plate 11 is suitably secured by soft-soldering, or.other wise. The back plate consists of a hollow casing provided with a flange 12 and has an aperture 13at one end thereof While the opposite end is shaped so as to form with the front plate a socket 14:. A catch 15 for the pin-point is shown as formed integral with the back plate. The pin-tongue is formed of spring material bent upon itself and comprising an upper arm 16, and a lower arm 17. The bent portion 18 of the pintonguc passes through the aperture 13 in the back plate. The intermediate portion of the lower arm is bowed to form a spring bridge. the inclined portions of which rest against the inclined end walls 19, 19 of the back plate.
As shown, the lower arm preferably is flattened, and the free end 20 thereof which rests upon the front plate and is relatively movable with respect thereto, is enclosed within the socket 14.
Thus the pin-tongue is flexibly secured to the front and back plate and the construction has all the advantages set forth in my prior Patent 1,589,705, dated June 1926,
disclosing a two-piece pin. that is. one which said may be secured, but protects the lower arm and generally makes a more rigid construction, v
Having thus described an illustrative embodiment of my invention without however limiting the same thereto, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is v 1. A pin comprising a front plate, a back plate secured thereto, a pin-tongue of spring material bent upon itself and comprising an upper and a lower arm, said back plate con sisting of a flanged hollow casing substantially co-extensiv-e in length with the lower arm of said pin-tongue, and a catch at one end of said back plate, the other end of said back plate having an opening and the bent portion of said pin-tongue passingthrough said opening. I
2. A pin comprising a front plate, a back plate secured thereto, and a pin-tongue of spring material bent upon itself and comprising anupper and a lower arm, said low er arm having its intermediate portion bowed upwardly to form a spring bridge, said back plate consisting of a' hollow casing having its end walls inclined with respect to said front plate and provided with an aperture at one end thereof, the bent portion of said pin-tongue passing through said aperture, and the inclined portions of the lower arm resting against the inner surfaces of the end walls of said. back plate.
3. A pin comprising a front plate, a back plate secured thereto, and a pin tongue of spring material bent upon itself and comprising an upper and a lower arm, the free end of said lower arm resting on said front plate and being relatively movable with respect thereto as the pin is opened and closed, said back plate consisting of a flanged hollow casing substantially co-extensive in length with the lower arm of said pin-tongue, one end of said back plate having an opening and the other end forming with said front plate a shallow socket, the bent portion of said pintongue passing through said opening and the free end of said lower arm being enclosed within said socket. I
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 11th day of February, 1927.
