Be it known that I, CLIFFORD G. KING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clasps, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to clasps, lingerie pins, and the like, and its object is to pr0- vide an article of this description in which the pin-tongue is secured to the front plate without the use of a pintle, and otherwise to improve and simplify the device in the manner hereinafter more fully set forth.

With the foregoing objects in view my invention comprises a plate having inwardly curved end portions, one of which is sub stantially parallel to the plate and constitutes a catch or pin-point-retaining means and the other has a perforation in its upper part through which the bent portionof the pin-tongue passes, after which the perforated bent portion of the plate is bent downwardly substantially at right angles to the plate to form a hood for the bent portion of the pin-tongue, the other end of the lower arm of said pin-tongue being secured to the plate under the said pinpoint-retaining means.

In the particular drawings selected for illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, 10 is the front plate of a clasp, lingeriepin or the like having two inwardly curvlng end portions 11, 12, the

end portion 12 being substantially parallel, to the plate in the finished article so as to form a catch or pinpoint-retaining means, and preferably the upper part thereof is provided with a shallow longitudinal groove 13 to prevent the disengagement of the pinpoint.

The other end portion is provided with an elongated perforation 14;, and the end thereof is notched as indicated at 15.

The pin-tongue consists of spring material bent upon itself asshown in F 3 to form an upperarm 16 and a lower arm 17, the end of the former being pointed and that of the'latter preferably bent as shown at 18 to. conform to the curvature of the bend of the end portion 12 of the plate, the groove 18 preferably being continued from the upper portion of said end down to the plate itself as indicated at 13 to accommodate the said bend 18 of the lower arm of the pin-tongue.

curved end 18 of the lower arm is inserted in the groove 13 formed in the inner surface of the end 12, and said end, which as shown in Fig. 2, is slightly inclined to the plate, is then pressed downwardly until it is parallel, or substantially parallel, to the plate,

and then the perforated end is bent downwardly substantially at right angles to the plate to form a hood for the bent portion of the pin-tongue, the notch 15 in the end of 1 said perforated end portion fitting over the lower arm of the pin-tongue as indicated in Fig. 5 in order more firmly t secure the latter in position.

It will be understood that while I have illustrated, and described one particular em bodiment of my invention, various modifia cations may be made therein without departlng from the spirit of my invention. claim,-

1. A clasp comprising a front plate having inwardly curving end portions, one of said end portions being disposed substantially parallel to said plate and constituting a pin-point-retaining means, and the other having a perforation in its upper part, and a pin-tongue of spring material bent upon itself and comprising an upper and a 1 lower arm, the bent portion of said pin tongue passing through said perforation and the other end of the same being secured to said plate under said pin-point-retaining means.

A clasp comprising a front plate having inwardly curving end portions, one of said end portions being disposed substantially parallel to said plate and constituting a pinpoint-retaining means, and the other having a perforation in its upper part, and a pin-tongue of spring material bent upon itself and comprising an upper and a lower arm, the bent portion of said pin tongue passing through said perforation, and the perforated end portion being bent downwardly substantially at right angles to said plate to form a hood for said bent portion of said pin-tongue, and the other end of said pin-tongue being secured to said plate under said pin-point-retaining means;

A clasp comprising a front plate having inwardly curving end portions, one of said end portions being disposed substantially parallel to said plate and constituting a phi-point-retaining means, and the other having a perforation in its upper part, and pin-tongue of s1 ring material bent upon itself and comprising an upper and a lower arm, the bent portion of said pin tongue passing through said perforation, and the perforated end portion being bent downwardly substantially atright angles to said plate to form a hood for said bent portion of said pin-tongue, the end of said perforated end portion being provided with a notch fittin over said lower arm, and the other end or said pin-tongue being secured to said plate under aid pinpoint-retaining means.
