To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN Janene, a subj ect of the Emperor of Austria, and resident of Port Washington, in the county of Osaukee and State of iVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Cabinets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

This invention refers to cabinets and has for its principal object to provide a cabinet adapted to be folded into a compact space for the purpose of shipping or storing.

With this and other objects in view the invention resides more particularly in the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more particularly described and pointed out in the appended claim.

The invention in one practical form in which it may be embodied is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure 1 is an elevational view of a cabinet embodying the features of the invention.

Fig. 2 is an elevational view with parts broken away and in section showing the invention in its collapsed form.

Fig. 3 is a plan sectional view taken on the line 38 of Fig. 1, and

Fig. 41- is an elevational view showing the rear side of the cabinet in its set up position.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings 1 designates a cabinet, provided with. side walls 2 having connected thereto, by means of the hinges 3, rear doors l adapted to be swung inwardly of the cabinet, while attached to the front side of the side wall by means of hinges 6 are front doors 7, the same being adapted to swing outwardly when the cabinet is to be collapsed. The top and bottom ends of the side walls are further. provided with projections 8 and 8. The projections 8 have hingedly connected to their outer ends a collapsible top closure 9 which is broken in the center and provided with hinges 9 which will permit the closure to fold inwardly upon collapsing the cabinet.

Depending from the top closure is an apron 10 which upon setting up the cabinet in its normal position will incase the side walls thereby a triers attentive sure to prevent the entrance of dust and also in addition to forming a finishing strip it serves to add rigidly to the cabinet in its set up position.

The projections 8 of the side walls have hingedly connected thereto a bottom closure 11 which is similar in construction to the top closure with the exception of the depending apron. Both the top and bottom closures are provided with back stripslEZ which form stops against which the rear doors abut thereby preventing any tendency of the same to swing outward.

Secured to the top and bottom closures at their hinged joints to lock them against folding are swinging straps 13 pivotally connected to one section of the closures and adapted to be swung into engagement with retaining fingers 13 carried by the opposite sides of the closures.

In operation it will be seen that in order to collapse the cabinet the same is 21000111- plished by disengaging the straps 13 from the retaining fingers 13 whereupon the top and bottom closures are free to be folded inwardly upon their hinged connections with the projections 8 and 8' of the side walls. As best shown in Fig. 2 it will be noted that the projections 8 and 8 form a pocket for the rear doors which are swung inwardly against the side walls. The hinges securing the front doors to the side walls are of such construction as to permit the front doors to swing outwardly of the cabinet and back against the side walls. Due to the collapsing top and bottom closures the side walls will then be drawn toward each other whereupon the cabinet is collapsed into a compact and minimum amount of space thereby facilitating storage or shipment of the same.

As will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which an invention of this character appertains it will be appreciated that various details of construction might be altered. without departing from the spirit of the invention.
