Description

W.. H. BRASIER. COMBINATION SAFETY RAZOR AND HAIR TRIMMER.

' Specification e! Letters Patcnt.-
Patented Aug. 20, 1918.
Application filed may as, 1917. Serial no. 170,929.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HARRY BnAsInR, a citizen of the United States, re-
siding at Corpus Christi, in the county of I Nueces and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Combination Safety-Razor and Hair-Trimmer, of which the following is a specification. I
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a tool adapted to be employed either for shaving or for hair trimming, and the inventionaims to provide, in a device of this type, a reversible plate, carrying a guard and comb teeth, the plate being reversible to permit the guard to be used in connection with a blade, for
- shaving, and to permit the teeth to be used in connection wlth a blade, for hair trimmmg.
I Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for holdin the blade in operative relation to the ad ustable plate. Another object of the invention is to pro-: vide novel means whereby the ate may be held in adjusted positions witli respect tothe blade. I ,Another object of the invention is to prov1de novel means for assemblin a handle with the head of the tool and wit the plate, in such a way that the handle serves as a clampin means for holding the plate in ad ust positions with regard to the blade.
With the aboveand other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combinat1on and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what'is claimed, with- .g ut departing from the spirit of the inven- 1on. v
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a tool 'constructed in accordance with the present invention; I
Fig. 2 is a lon 'tudinal section taken through the head 0 the tool and the blade; Fig. 3 is. a transverse section taken through the head of the tool and the blade; Fi 4 is a plan of the reversible plate whic arries the guard and the comb teeth;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the head.
The device forming the subject matter of this application comprises a head denoted generally by the numeral'l and including a flat table 2 having a transverse, elongated slot 3. The table 2 has upstanding sides 4 provided with inwardly projecting guides 5 at the inner edges ofwhich, upstanding walls 6 are fashioned. .The upper edges of the walls 6 are downwardly and forwardly inclined as shown at 7, and carry outwardly extended blade supports 8, the outer edges of which are supplied with inwardly extended, resilient blade r v The numeral 10 denotes a plate mounted to slide forwardly and backwardly on the table 2, beneath the guides 5. The plate 10 overhanging,
along one edge is supplied with guard teeth 11, and along the opposite edge of the plate are located comb teeth 121which are finer than theguard-teeth -11."In the plate 10 is fashioned a threaded opening 14. A blade 15 rests on the blade supports 8, which are downwardly and forwardly inclined,
and is held thereon by means of the grips 9. The numeral v16 denotes a handle provlded adj abent its upper endwith an abutment 17 and terminated at its upper end in a threaded. stem 18. The stem 18 passes through the slot 3 in the table 2 and is threaded into the opening 14 in the plate 10. I
The plate 10 may be moved forwardly and rearwardly by means of the handle 16, and when the handle 16 is rotated, the table-2 is bound between the plate 10 and the abutment 17. In this way, either the guard teeth 11 or the comb teeth 12 may be held in operative relation'to the cutting edge of the blade 15, it being ossible to reverse the plate 10,1so that (either the guard teeth 11 or the coihbteeth 12 are disposed in 0 rative relation to the cutting edge of the blade 15. Further, the blade 15 may be adjusted alon the inclined blade supports 18. Owing to tEe adjustments above mentioned, the space between the cutting edge of the blade 15 and the guard teeth 11, or between the cutting edge of the blade and the comb teeth 12, upon the other hand, maybe regu lated, thereby to 've either a close or a medium shave, an to regulate the length at which the hair is trimmed, when the comb teeth 12 are disposed adjacent the cuttig edge of the blade 15.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is In a device of the class described, a head comprising a flat table having a transverse elongated'slot, the table having upstanding 1 v edges of the walls being downwardly and forwardly inclined, and carrying outwardly extended blade supports, the outer edges of which are supplied with inwardly extended blade grips; a blade held between the grips and the supports; a guard plate on the table beneath the guides; and a handle abutting against the table, the handle havin a reduced stem extended through the sfot and threaded into the guard plate.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
