Description

.l'. PERLMUTTER.
' 'BILLIARD cuem.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT-1, 191 7- 1,274,765. Patent-ed Aug. 6, 1918.
mam z /e provide a cue tip which may I a specification, like oh I BILLIARD-OUE r12.
To all whom it may concern 2 Be it known that I, JOSEPH PERLMUT'IER, a citizen of the" United States, residin nection with theaccompan'ying drawings, i
ings representing like parts.
This 'nvention relates to. an improvement in billiard cuetips and has for its-objectto be quickly attached to and detached. from the ends of billardand pool cues without theuse of glue or other adhesivesubstance, the: device being adapted for quickly attaching to the end of cues with a special cue tip holder or socket, such as is shown and claimed in my application for patent on an improvement in cue tip sockets or holders, .filed concurrently with this application Serial N 0. 189,264, filed Se 1, 1917, thereby saving the loss of time, la or and the use of the cues, which follows attaching cue tips with glue or adhesive substance in the old way.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the device, of the cue tip holder, in which it is retained, and of a of a'billi'ard cue. e
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the one tip, showing the bottom or flangedbase portion restin portion of the hitting end Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the completed device. a Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of'thc two main portions of the one tip, showing the flanged base portion and the rabbetted f member having a cyhndrical tongue on one end to registerwithin'the recess in the hittop or head portion.
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view'of the top or head portion of the device and a modified form of the base portion, having two an- Q Specificatidn of Letters Patent. i
at. Jersey City, inthe county of Hudson, Sim of .New.Jersey,.have invented a new and u seful'Improvement in Billiard-Cue Tips, of whichthe following description, in. con

tact with .thebilliard ball when it is by the one and is may be of a laminated construction as'indicated infFiga preferably made of a single piece of leather as in Fig. 3, but ifdesiredit.
4 and 5,:the head .POItlOILle J 7 formed ofa soft springy "leather, and "the,
under portion suitable material.
The base portion of the device?) has pp a E :integrally with a),
centrally located cylindrical protrusion, 11
adaptedto fit into; a centrally located cylindrical recess :12, formed in thehead portion 2, 'so that when thetwoi portions are at- 2 of a .hard leather or other-Q tached as in Fig. 3, the sides 13, 14, are parallel and give an unbroken cylindrical for-; mation.- The lowerportion .4 of the base portion 3 is flanged,'the upper side 8, of the flange being parallel with the under-surface 9'of' the main portion 3. I
It will be understood, however, that the invention is not limited to this construction as it may be desirable to supply two flanges at the base, portion as illustrated at 16, 15 Fig. -5. It will be noted that both ends of the base member 3 are cylindrical, the I flanged portion 4=bein of a smaller diameter, rendering it capa le of being retained within the cue ti holder such as illustrated. It Will be. seen t at the assembly of the tip, tip holder, and cue, as illustrated in Fig. 1, presents a smooth'unbroken cylindrical unit. .It will benoted thatthe cylindrical pro- .trusion 11, aotsas a guide to holdthe two portions of the device in proper' position and relation when attached, and also givesadded strength to the head portion 1 so that it can not readily be detachedfrom the base section by reason of side blows, when inuse.
Having thus described my said improve ment, I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent under this specification: v
1.- In a one tip, the hitting'member having a cylindrical recess on one end, the base ting member, the other end being formed as a flangefor securing the device on the end of abilliard cue.
2. A one tip comprising a head or hitting portion and a base portion, the base portion on one end, to dowel into the head portion and having its free end shaped in the formof an annular flange.
3. Inga. one tip, the head or hitting mom 1 rated-to fol-man aircushion, the other end.
ber, comprising a hard and a soft layer of similar material, the soft layer shaped for contact With billiardballs, the hard layer containing a cylindrical recess, a base por}. tion, made of fiber or other suitable material, formed Witha cylindrical neck or pro-,
tru'sion on one end adapted to register With in and be permanently attacliedto thehead.-:
member, the other end of the base member forming an annularflange, adapted to be secured to-the end of a billiard cue,.by suit head member, the cylinelricalivalls inclose' contact, the. cylindrical ends slightly sepahead or hitting mentof the base member formed as an annular flange, adapted to be secured to the end of a billiard cue by suitable-retaining means.
5. In a one tip, comprising two main members, the hitting member, cylindrical in shape, having one end formed like theseg: 'ment '01" a sphere, the other end having a cylindrical recess tlae'base member, cyllndrical in shape, one end provided With a cylindrical tongue and adapted to register integrally with the recessed end of the hittingi-;irnem-ber,. to form an unbroken cylindrical unltythe: opposite end of" the base memberr'formedas .ana-nnular' flange, the
circumference or which is less than that of the mam member, 1 V
Intestnn'ony whereof I have signed my 11ame.=. to tlriswsp'ecifieation in the presenceof two subscribing Witnesses.
