guide shoe of an elevator which is movable UNTTED STATES PATENT 7 CHARLES G. SCHONDELMAIER, OF JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO 3'. W. HAMANN, OF JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA.
LUBRICATOR.
To allwimm it may concern:
Beit known that 1, CHARLES G. SoHoN- DELMAIER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
elevator to permit it to move relatively thereto.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 represents a rear elevation of the improved lubricator applied to an elevator,
Fig. 2 represents a horizontal sectional view through the guide of the elevator, showing the lubricator in top plan,
Fig. 3 represents a plan view of the absorbent element prior to being folded and inserted in the container,
Fig. 4 represents a plan view of the lubricator, the cover being removed. 7
Fig. 5 represents a vertical sectional view taken through the longitudinal axis of the lubricator, Fig. 6 represents a vertical sectional view through the lubricator at right angles to Fig. 5, the cover being removed, and
Fig. 7 represents a partial perspective view of the holder removed from the lubri-Vv cator.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5indicatesthe over the track 13?, andis secured in positionupon the elevator by bolts 7. The im- Specification of Letters Patent.
' L Application filed February 7, 1917. Serial No. 147,125.
Patented'July 2,1918.
proved lubricator consists of a substantially inverted U-shaped support 6, having inwardly directed lower terminals which embrace the base of the shoe 5 and are secured in position upon the elevator bythe securing bolts 7. A substantially U- shaped frame 9 is pivotally secured by a bolt 8 to the inverted U-shaped member 6 and the bolt passesthrough the web portions of the supporting member and frame.
The improved lubricator consists of a container 11, preferably-of rectangular formation and provided upon the side walls thereof with laterally projecting and apertured ears 10*, receiving bolts 10, whereby the container is supported upon the upper outwardly directed terminals of the U-shaped frame 9. The container is provided with an open upper end and the upper terminal of the front wall thereof is directed forwardly, as indicated at 12, and provided with a recess 13, which is of such width as to movably receive the guide 13 for the elevator.
A lubricating element constructed of absorbent material, and indicated generally by the numeral 14, is arranged against the bottom and front wall of the container 11 and one terminal thereof is enlarged and arranged within the forwardly directed portion 12 of the container. The enlarged terminal of the lubricating element is recessed, as indicated at 15, so as to receive the guide 13, and the opposite end is formed with a longitudinal slit dividing it into bifurcations 16.
Acover 17 is positioned over the upper open end of the container 11 and is provided with a depending flange 18 overlying the walls of the container. The front portion of the cover 17 is formed with a recess 17, registeringwith the recesses 13'and 15 in the front wallof the container 11 and lubricating element 14, respectively.
A'vertically disposed rod-19 is rigidly secured to or formed integral with the bottom of the container 11 and. extends upwardly'through an opening formed in the cover 17. The'upper terminal of the rod 19 is screw threaded and receives a winged 17 to removablysecure the latter in position upon the container.
I nut 20, which is adapted to engage the top front wall thereof, and the upper terminal is engaged by the cover 17. A pair of laterally projecting tongues 22 are formed integral with the upper end of the holder 21 and are received within slots 23 formed in the portion of the front wall of the container extending above the forwardly directed portion 12 thereof, whereby the holder is supported in spaced relation to the bottom of the container.-
What I claim is l. A lubricator including a container, a holder secured internally of the container to the front wall thereof, a forwardly directed hollow extension communicating with said holder, an absorbent lubricating element fitted in the holder and having an enlarged terminal arranged in the forward extension, a removable cover fitted upon the container and extension and confining the enlarged terminal of the lubricating element therein, said lubricating element, forwardly directed extension and cover having vertical recesses therein to receive an elevator guide, and means removably securing said cover in position.
2. In combination, an elevator shoe, a guide received within said shoe, a frame se cured to the shoe, a lubricant container pivotally secured to the frame on an axis extending parallel with the guide, and a recessed lubricating element arranged in the container and engaging the guide.
3. A lubricator including a container, a holder of less width than and arranged within said container, a forwardly directed hollow extension communicating with said container, and an absorbent lubricating element confined in the holder and having an enlarged terminal received within said extension.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
