Description

P. PRATT. STENOGRAPHERS NOTE BOOK HOLDER APPLICATION FILED DEC.2B. NW.
1 ,2? 1,219. Patented July 2, 1918.
IN I/EN TOR A TTORIVE Y8 nivirnn srarns PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL PRATT,
or HACKENSACK, NEW, JERSEY.
STENOGRAPHERS. NOTE-BOOK HOLDER. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, PAUL PRATT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hackensack, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Stenographefis Note-Book Holder, ofwhich the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a note book or copy holder adaptedto be used by stenographers, whereby the book will be held ina convenient manner while transcribing notes on a typewriter. l i
' The invention has for its general objects to improve and simplify the construction and operation of devices of this character so as to be reliable and efficient in use, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and so designed as to hold a note book in such a manner that the leaves can be easily and quickly turned and properly held.
The invention has as a further object to provide a novel arrangement of spring clamps for holding the book and leaves, such clamps being so designed as to enable the book to be easily detached when required.
lVith such objects in view, and others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of partsv which will be set forth with particularity in the following description and claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates one embodiment of the invention and wherein similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views,
Figure l is a side view of the note book holder shown in use;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the book and pageholding clamps.
Referring to the drawing, A designates the frame or body of the holder, which comprises a standard made of upper and lower sections 1 and 2, and a cross head 3 on the upper end of the upper section, there being a hinge joint between the sections. This joint is formed by one section being formed with a recess and split longitudinally to constitute two clamping jaws 4, and the other section has a tongue 5 which enters between the jaws, and a clamping bolt 6 passes through the jaws and tongue to enable the sections of the standard to be Specification of Letters Patent.
clamped rigidly together by tightening the bolt, or to be loosely pivotally connectedby unloosening the nut of the bolt. The standard has its lower end mounted in. a base piece 7 which can be directly screwed to the top of a typewriter desk B centrally behind the typewriter C, or the base piece 7 can be screwed to an attaching spring plate 8 which has a spring-engaging member 9 extending rearwardly .upwardly from the front edge of the plate 8, so that the attaching device can be inserted under the typewriter frame between the latter andthe desk, the spring 9 being provided with a longitudinal groove 10' which interlocks with the typewriter frame. In. inserting the attaching device the spring 9 yields downwardly until the I frame alines. with the groove 10, when the groove interlocks 15 or the turned back leaves 16 of the book.
After the book is thus adjusted in the holder the leaves as they are successively turned are engaged under the top clip or clamp 13 so as to keep these leaves turned back. The clips 11 and 12 serve to firmly hold the book in place, while the upper clip 13 holds those leaves back which have been turned after the book has been applied to the holder. To prevent the front or unturned leaves from moving by the wind, a vertical spring clamp 17 is fastened to the lower end of the upper section 1 of the standard so as to engage the free ends of the unturned leaves, as shown.

method of operation Will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and While I have described the principle of operation, together with the device which I now consider to be thebest embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made When desired as fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having .thus described my invention, claim as new and Patent:
1. A copy holder of the class described includin' a standard, a cross-head on the standar in the form of a bar, a pair of clamping members arranged respectivelyat the front and rear of the standard and tensioned normally to engage therewith to hold the front and back leaves of the copy, and a member carried by the cross head and arranged above the clamping' members to engage over the turned-back leaves of the copy,
I desire to secure by Letters all of said members being fastened to one I end of the cross-head.
Copies of this patent may be. obtained for at the front and back 'pendently movable,
over the top '2; A copy holder comprising a supporting structure having a horizontal bar and three members mounted on the left end of the bar a'nd'extending toward the right, two of the members being disposed respectively and tensioned' norbar and being indeand the third member being disposed over the bar and between the first-mentioned members, the free ends of the members being adjacent the middle of the bar.
3. A copy holder comprising a support, a pair of clamps of the support right and terminating with their free ends adjacent the middle of the support, said clamps being normally tcnsioned to engage the support, and a member fastened to the same portion mally to engage the thereof with its inner end terminating adjacent the middle of the support.
